Goals for 2012

Just posted in the 41 thread and thought the 33 could use one too.

ill start
  • get ftp above 4.8 w/kg (currently at 4.5)
  • break 1200 watts (preferably get up to high 1200/low to mid 1300)
  • defend state tt title
  • go to junior nats
  • not embarrass myself at junior nats
  • race with the big boys and not fall flat on my face (all local races are p/1/2/3)
  • come into the season with some fitness unlike last year
  • win a couple of my A races especially one of the local hilly road races that was my first race ever.

For the racing forum: Do group rides with guys who race. Get slaughtered. Learn things. Repeat.

echappist 12-04-11 11:49 PM

physiological/training:

break 1100W for a 5" sprint (unlikely...); peaked at 1030W, ~7%
break 8.50w/kg for 60" (doable); peaked at 8.07w/kg, ~5%
break 5.80w/kg for 5' (doable); peaked at 5.29w/kg, ~10%
break 4.40w/kg for FTP (stretch, but doable); currently at 4.01w/kg, ~10%
get to 67.5kg by end of December, currently at 69.3kg, down from 71.5kg a few weeks ago; 66.5kg by early April
not taking big gaps in training and training smarter

racing:
enter more races
get in meaningful breaks and learn to attack shrewdly
better my skills at surfing wheels and cornering amongst skittish riders
learn to tail-gun like CDR and WR in order to avoid surges
upgrade to Cat 3
podium in a few Collegiate B races
most importantly, racing safe

bike related:
barring significant expenses such as the need to replace shifters, limit my bike spending to $400 from now until the end of 2012

work/life related:
get a better schedule, as my old schedule impacts training and recovery :o

bernside 12-05-11 05:04 AM

1. Measure thighs.
2. Get on bike.
3. Win.

gsteinb 12-05-11 05:22 AM

one goal: post less

plantrob 12-05-11 07:13 AM

1. Enter enough early-season races to upgrade to cat 4 before the season is mostly done
2. Get some experience with team tactics (most likely not till item 1 is complete)
3. Have fun with some new toys (Garmin 500 with HRM, probably PowerTap)
4. Improve cornering (need lots of help there)
5. Improve sprinting (ditto; would be nice to at least win a couple of road-sign sprints in my lunch group :))

Are you going for fewer words or fewer posts?

carpediemracing 12-05-11 08:32 AM

2012:
- get all bike equipment back up to 100% (that's an every year goal)
- get close to 2010 early season weight for early season (155-158)
- race better than 2011 (i.e. better than a single 10th and a slew of DNFs)

- some promoting goals too, but I only announce them when I'm about to harvest, not when I'm planting seeds.

rbart4506 12-05-11 09:00 AM

-Improve ability to move around in the pack
-Work at getting to the pointy end of the group and stay there
-Actually do something in a race instead of sitting in and being happy finishing with the pack
-Finish in the top half of the Cat4 field at Catskills and Green Mountain
-Hit that elusive (for me anyway) 40kmh speed in a 40k TT
-Oh yea, buy an actually TT bike to hopefully help with the goal above

I'd also to fit in some volunteering with our club, because I know they can use the help....

TheKillerPenguin 12-05-11 09:11 AM

Get my ****ing upgrade.

Everything else is gravy.

mattm 12-05-11 10:04 AM

Win more than last year. Win something besides a crit. (road race would be optimal)

Do 50+ races (last year was close to 45, won't be too hard)

Upgrading to the 2's will come pretty easy (almost there), but little after that will be easy. I just need to make sure it stays fun.

badhat 12-05-11 10:37 AM

win Cat 3 BAR
top tens in all the state championships
a W at state TT

guadzilla 12-05-11 11:42 AM

For the first time since I was 18, try to get down from 178-180lb to 165lb, and try to get close to 4W/kg

lokerola 12-05-11 11:54 AM

1 Attachment(s)
1. Quit eating everything in site
2. Ride more
3. Combine 1 and 2 and lose weight
4. Enter my first crit sometime before the end of next summer

SalsaPodio 12-05-11 12:18 PM

FTP 5 W/kg or above (sitting at 4.4 right now)
Win more races than last year
Do well at collegiate nats, not sure what that means yet.

It'll be my first year racing with a team so I'll be learning a lot.

veloboy971 12-05-11 08:18 PM

Get my FTP to 5.2 w/kg (gonna be hard, currently at ~4.92), which should improve performance in TT's against bigger guys and the ability to attack out of the break.

Have either as good of a season next year as I did this year or better (ie. a few more wins :))

Brian Ratliff 12-05-11 09:44 PM

Win a crit. Upgrade to cat 2 on the road ('tis been elusive for me as of yet).

Sprint with the big boys on the track. (real sprint, not wussy mass start sprint).

Stop worrying about weight and focus on power. I climb badly at 180, I climbed badly at 170, and 160 is a pipe dream. Time to start working on the numerator.

kindablue 12-05-11 09:55 PM

Upgrade to Cat 3 road
Pull a W on the track (cat 3)
Tour of Gila top 20

I think I may need to loose 10lbs for that last one :(

pjcampbell 12-06-11 04:46 PM

i want to win the ski mountaineering race @ Mad river Glen in february. probably a long shot but Ive got the home court advantage. All we need now is snow.

That does sound nutty.

stevemtbr 12-07-11 09:38 AM

For the body:
Try to go from 185lbs to 175lbs by April.

On the road:
Participate in more group training rides.
Improve sprint.
Top 5 in the Tuesday road race series.

For riding off road:
No pinch flats in the Wednesday race series.
Faster night laps for the 24 hour race.

Cyclocross:
Continue to work on power especially on inclines
Top 10 in the local CC race series

mike868y 12-07-11 09:39 AM

all I want for christmas 2012 is my cat 3 upgrade.

kensuf 12-07-11 09:39 AM

Yeah, decided to split it up into two or three things in the afternoon (after returning from the PT I'll go outside until it's dark, then do some combination of trainer & rollers until my time is up).

beingcre8tive 12-07-11 09:45 AM

Lose 20 to 30 lbs = riding the hills better!
