Shifting issues...head banging.....!

hi guys , advice please... Been in the trade for 20+ years and this has me stumped... Tiagra 10sp shifters. 4600 , on a spez secteur ( not that that matters but hay). new hanger , new outter cables. slick inner cable. new rear mech. ( tiagra 4700) and it just wont shift right. smooth as silk cable action but not lining up with the cogs. ever good going up the gears but crap and out of line coming down, or good coming down the gears but crap going up... other that changing the shifter its a new group set.. any advise will be good. (frame is all true by the way). many thanks.

The 4700 rear derailleur uses a different cable pull ratio to the other Shimano 10 speed road rear derailleurs.

You'll need either a different rear derailleur or a 4700 shifter.

This is a good resource: https://productinfo.shimano.com/download/pdf/com/2.3/en.

Thanks i was thinking it was something like that.

4700 RD uses the same cable pull ratio as the 11 speed road RD, so you could possibly upgrade to 11 speed in the future while using the same 4700 RD (and swapping 11 speed shifter.)

You say you have a new hanger but you didn't say if it has been aligned with a gauge.

9-speed cassettes and above are real sensitive to precise hanger alignment and one of the ways bad alignment manifests itself is the issue you have described for us.

The OP has a 10 speed cassette. Tiagra 4600 and 4700 are both 10 speed and incompatible with each other
