Fun with Metric Taps
I have had an old Campy rear derailleur - a 980 I think - in my stash for some time, and I also had a Soma long cage replacement for a Nuovo Record RD. I just could not bring myself to modify a Nuovo Record rear (it is just so gorgeous) but the plain lines of the Soma long cage mated up pretty well with the squarish 980. When I tried to bolt the Soma cage to the 980, though, I discovered that it used an M7 bolt rather than the M6 of the NR. So I tapped out the cage, and voila! Now to find a bike to use it on. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...9a5031c8e7.jpg |

That guy that bought the Italian Bianchi Touring bike needs to try that..

Did the M7 tap self center as you enlarged the hole? Or did you have to fixture up a holding device of some sort and drill first to enlarge the M6 hole? Just curious. BTW - what gear range are you going to be shifting with the long cage? |

It does look elegant. Post pics when it's on a bike.
