Isn't it a lovely thing, probably somewhere nearing 50lbs., but the way the frame is made, sure industrial, but look at all the curves in that tubing.

A dream bike from my grade school years.

On auction at Goodwill for the next day and some hours, too far away and really what would I do with it???

LOL ride it!

Check out the tank, to me it looks like the opening on the U.S.S. Enterprise for it's "photon torpedo" launcher.

Pass me will you, "Sooloo" (sp?) lock on and fire". :roflmao:

Ya know, sometimes when you have an itch, ya just gotta scratch it.
I've been in your shoes a couple of times, went for it, and happy I did.
Even though I bought high and will likely sell low, it was worth it.

Looks to me like the seat tube is bent backwards just above the laterals and took the seat stays with it. Careful with that one unless you just want to hang it up and look at it.

Yet again, I regret that there's no brewpub +/- 1 mile away to cycle to; all sorts of bikes one could ride to.

OK, I wouldn't want to do 20 miles on this Sears but it deserves a dignified "retirement", not going to the dump/whatever.

Just put some ape hangers angled back to fix that little blemish.:innocent:

Yes, this is much better advice for this bike. I have a history of being stupefied by curves.

Damn it Jim, I'm a doctor, not a bicycle repair man!

I get a vibe that maybe this had some work done/started on it by by someone of the bike low rider fanclub......

That thing would be wild to take on a 50 mph descent. It already looks fast just sitting there. Love the aero rear dropouts / spoilers. Are those UCI legal?

The overall design theory of this bike is the exact opposite of the Obree bikes, lean way back, not way forward.

USAZorro 10-08-19 12:44 PM

I think it once looked more like this. (not my photo. For illustration only)

If you really think about it, this way "might" be more aerodynamic. 🤔 Or maybe not. 😁😉

^^^^^^ That would explain the "did Ben Lawee get caught in a time warp" chainstays as well. Wow, that all happened at once? Extinction-event meteorite strike, maybe? Or is this the result of an intentional hand, as suggested? I would still not trust it as far as I could throw it.

Pcampeau 10-08-19 01:59 PM

This one definitely looks like it’s built for standing and mashing out of the saddle. I wonder what the weight drops to if you removed the seat and seat post altogether? Maybe 46/47 pounds?

madpogue 10-08-19 03:37 PM

The other "elephant in the room" question - is the handlebar position intentional?

Lemond1985 10-08-19 03:47 PM

Just speculating wildly here, but I suspect that for a long time, bikes were designed to look like old time Harley Davidson-era motorcycles, with pedals, for people that were too young or too poor to ride a real Harley. Check out this 1936 Colson, it looks essentially like a "lightweight" motorcycle frame, and the handlebars are definitely motorcycle-inspired. The seat too.

Early Harley-Davidsons WERE bicycles, that's how they got their start, building bicycles along with the Wright brothers and the Duesenberg brothers of Duesenberg - Cord - Auburn fame.

That was built by Murray and there has for sure been fowl :o "foul" play involved. It's OK though, even in mint condition it doesn't have much value, girl's bike, there's still a million of them out there. Now, if they had done that to a nice 1962 Murray Missile boy's bike I'd be a bit perturbed. ;)

Glad you all enjoyed.

A little walk back in time.

"The rear triangle is so bent on this bloody thing that Khan must have taken a couple of runs on it with his own photon torpedo, Captain!"

But yes, the similarity with the refit Enterprise isn't lost...

^^^^^ New frame angle throws off the alignment of the photon torpedo bay.....
