Why do I always feel crooked when riding? please help

Lately I feel like the front of my bike is always leaning to the left no matter how precisely I align my stem with my front wheel. I'm not sure what's causing this. It might just be a matter of genetics (one arm being slightly longer than the other) or maybe my fork is bent? I really don't know what it is. I play around with adjusting the stem but it still feels crooked when I ride. I know it's not that serious but little things like this irk me. Any ideas as to why this occurs?

Your fork might be bent.

do you feel your bike is leaning to the left or turning to the left? A misaligned stem/fork would cause turning.

maybe if your bar is not centered on the stem that may cause a unbalance and a leaning on the front end.

Or maybe your seat is crooked.

leaning

Or maybe your seat is crooked
Definetly not, I check the alignment of my seat everyday

elTwitcho 10-27-09 01:29 PM

Also worth checking the alignment of your rear wheel

This may in fact be an illusion, similar to eyeballing a chainline etc.

I feel like my commuter leans to the right a bit; one can sit there and look for problems all day long, but in reality it's probably the way your body is positioned, the particular point of rotation your crank is at, and the grade of the surface you're riding on.

Remember that a 20lb steel frame flexes a lot; if all of your weight is positioned on one side of the bike, of course it's going to lean in that direction.

checking the alignment of your rear wheel
I also check that every night.

May be true. But something's def up when you see it and feel it leaning.

Did you check to see if your handle bars are centered?

wheeldeal 10-27-09 01:55 PM

What bike is this?

tmh657 10-27-09 01:58 PM

Have your frame alignment checked. Seat stays might be bent.

jpdesjar 10-27-09 02:01 PM

You did mention different arm lengths before.

danarnold 10-27-09 02:01 PM

"Why do I always feel crooked when riding?"

Do you work for a Republican?

centered

What bike is this?
Bianchi Pista 08

Everyone has disproportionate body parts and the diff in my arm is minuscule if there's a diff in length at all. I would like to think it's the bike that's off

riot2003 10-27-09 02:17 PM

Have one of your friends hop on the bike, see if its you or the bike.

Yo! 10-27-09 02:23 PM

I think it was the Tommasso Augusta that had the chainstay/seatstay centering issues.

Trade bikes with a buddy or two. If their bikes are leaning to the left too, maybe it's you. I'm in Brooklyn often, I'll be willing to trade bikes and do a lap with you in Prospect Park.

Yeah, I bet you roll up with a Wallmart bike, swap bikes and disappear off into the proverbial sunset.

jpdesjar 10-27-09 06:31 PM

V8 should fix things

HAHAHA. I thought about that.....but I have XT & XTR on my bike. It's worth a little more than an average SS/FG bike.
