A bit worse than predicted. Plate and cast instead of pin and splint. I’m out though.

Tough few weeks @gsteinb. Hang in there. I hope everyone is on the mend.

I think the moral is if you’re in shape you’ll end up in a hospital and if you’re out of shape you’ll get there too!

Hoo boy. Stay out of hospitals! Those places are lousy with unhealthy people.

Ted: God I hate hospitals.
Dougal: Do you ever notice it’s usually sick people who end up in hospitals?

Care of Father Ted. Great show

boo, made some terrible choices picking races this weekend. I signed up for one on Sunday, it's cancelled because of expected bad weather (in the 30's and possible rain/snow) and one that I was thinking of doing tomorrow will probably be full (they had 4 slots left at reg closing, i'm sure they'll get more than enough day of). my wife and son are gone for the next week for spring break so I'm itching to get some different riding in, including driving to some weekday training crits down south, we'll see, I feel the more likely outcome will be doing some trainerroad stuff lol

I'm presently teaching a meditation retreat to a group of college students...occupational hazard

I was looking through old emails trying to figure out when my older helmet is from, since my newer one needs to be replaced (it got used a lot more).

My NEW helmet was purchased 8 years ago.

This tells me two things.

1. I'm very old and I've been riding (or "riding" depending on the year) for a long time.

2. I should probably replace both helmets, considering the old one I was considering using is about 10 years old.

Where did the time go?

Strained my peroneus last night. Breaking up a fight. I think I'll be okay and we'll see tonight if it affects my riding.

We leave our backdoor open for the dog to use the bathroom. Around 1 am she started barking (which is rare), so I go out to see what's wrong. She's by her food bowl squared off with two raccoons. She's about 45 lbs and the bigger raccoon is about the same size. She looks at me for a moment and goes

Getting one by the neck and whipping it around. The second one takes off and lunges towards me as I was in the way of her escape route. I sidestepped while looking for something to break up the fight. The other racoon tries to go up a wall but the dog then grabs it by the rear and pulls it down. At that point the raccoon has claws flying but our dog is evading the bites. Eventually, the raccoon realized it was done and took off, and I held back my dog with a stick.

Dog looks pretty good right now, a few scratches on her face and one in her armpit but luckily no evidence of bites. She has her shots.

badass!

Well, it's been a whole year at my job, so apparently it's time to move on. Had an interview this morning for a manager position. Big step up from where I am, 25 or so total reports, mostly other engineers. I'd report to a director. Never saw myself going this route, but I've been enjoying interviewing people and mentoring and stuff, and this is where your career has to go if you want more responsibility and more money. Nobody has pure engineers at the top. We'll see. Wife is due Monday, so obviously this is the perfect time to start a new job.

TMonk 04-19-18 04:12 PM

Congrats on both fronts FB!!!

Mowed the lawn today but forgot my mask. I'll be paying for that mistake for days.

Now that you have a better job you can hire a gardener!

I could already hire someone, I just hate having people do stuff I'm capable of, partly because I'm cheap and partly because I'm particular and people never do things right. For a while I was having little change the oil and rotate the tires because it was harder at my in laws. Changed mine for the first time after letting them do it, all the lug nuts were over torqued, they hadn't used never seize, and they had left out the crush washer on the oil drain plug. And this was a highly rated shop, not a jiffy lube.

I also don't have the job yet. I have a good shot, but no guarantee.

furiousferret 04-21-18 09:00 PM

I'm the same way, unfortunately my backyard is the size of a hockey rink; took me a good 90 minutes today. Fortunately, everything dies in the summer and I don't have a $500 budget for water.

Sending out sympathy cards to some cousins who just lost their dad (we're all in our late 30's) and am feeling like an ******* because the only stamps I have are Christmas stamps. I'm sure they won't look at the stamp, but "Joy to the World" on the stamp just doesn't convey the right sentiment (actually, I didn't use those, but the ones I went with do still have a very strong Christmas theme).

It shows how often I actually sent mail anymore. I probably bought a hundred a year or 2 ago to mail out Christmas cards and have been slowly working through them all year round. I'm not sure when I stopped paying bills with a check in the mail (for a long time I was adamant about not linking anything to my bank account), but now I can't imagine doing anything other than automatic bill pay.
