Cerakote bike frame
Anyone ever had a bike frame painted with Cerakote? I know it is plenty durable. Just curious how easy it is to clean.

I've got a lot of experience with Cerakote on firearms.
It's durable, it looks great, and it's incredibly easy to clean. That's running it through holsters, training courses, carried day in and day out.... not wiped off and put in a climate controlled safe. I imagine that coating a bike frame would be costly, but if done properly, absolutely it's going to hold up and be easy to clean. |
I Duracoated a frame/fork a couple of years ago, it looked as good as the day I finished it when the frame gave up the ghost. I went DIY and already ave HVLP equipment, so the whole job set me back less than $100, including all prep materials.
There is basically no cleaning required with two-part epoxy coatings. Nothing sticks to the finish-- and I mean nothing, I couldn't even put a sticker on the bike, it would just fall off-- so I just sporadically wiped it down with a cloth. |
Thanks guys. I have used it for some custom mouse pads. I don't spray it, a have a coater that does Cerakote and powder coat, obviously can't powder coat a carbon fork.
Going to do the frame in H-170 titanium, and the fork in MC-161 matte clear (room temp cure, no bake) and pink for an accent color. Also, planning Rolf Prima wheelset with pink stickers and hub (this is Cerakote as well), and going to eventually have the stem, seat post clamp, and brake arms sprayed with the same pink. |
Inexpensive, light and incredibly durable. Two downsides. If you do manage to chip it, you cannot do a touch up like you can with paint. And the colors are matte, but if you mix them with the glossy white you get a nice pearl finish.
I have better photos on my iMac. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...afcbc25e2.jpeg |

By the way, @indyfabz thanks you for giving him an excuse to post pics of his bike again. :D

Well aware of the touchup issues and such. I have used it before when building custom mouse pads. The gloss level on H series cerakote can be adjusted by changing the mix ratio between the two parts. Mostly curious at how easy it cleans up from road grime and such.
This was taken after its 12 mile maiden voyage home from the shop. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...f56a70dcc9.jpg |
I'm glad to see this thread. I have a gold plated frame I'm clear coating with Cerakote. It should adhere to the gold plate?
