Ishiwata CrMo 025 Frame Road Bike

How do I best describe vintage Detel Marathon bike built on an Ishiwata CrMo 025 frame?
I've found several descriptions of this short-lived venture whose plant manager was Olympian Brent Emery, but each one repeats the story that they used 022 and 024 tubing, never mentioning bikes built of 025. I gather that the company imported frames and forks (the decal does claim "Built From 025 Ishiwata CrMo Double Butted Tubes Forks & Stays."
Should it be called 'robust?' Calling it 'unique' does not seem appropriate unless I can establish that this is the only bike they built on an 025 frame.

The decal is sun faded, but it was clearly one of their classic gold, black, and white ones.

You should check out this post from your previous thread.

I acknowledge that my vision is compromised. Perhaps I missed something. Here's what I saw:

His idea was to import Ishiwata frames, build them up with parts and sell them as branded bikes. Apparently shortly into that venture, some investors pulled out, and I think the brand was out of business in less than a year.

There were two models produced, the Legend and the Marathon, and the only difference I remember was the particular Ishiwata tubing used in each. There may have been parts differences as well, but the parts were fairly pedestrian, so it's not exactly like one model had high-end parts and the other didn't.

I've seen a few Detels. Most of the value is in the Ishiwata frame rather than the entire bike. Otherwise there is nothing much to distinguish these bikes from comparable models from more well-known brands.
bargainguy, Hi, I am Brent Emery. The founder of Detel Bicycles was Louis Lacount. It was his company. I was hired as the plant manager just off my retiring off the bike racing circuit after I medaled at the 1984 Olympics. The rest of your recollection is correct. Keep the pedals turning, Brent
I do not believe that the post cited does anything to address the use of an 025 Ishiwata frame "Super Cyclist" to construct a Detel bicycle.

Since other threads on bikeforums. net have stated emphatically that only the 022 "Speed Galant" and 024 "Ultra Strong" were used by Detel, I decided to ask if anyone else has seen an 025 used on a Detel bicycle or if other posters had good reason for listing only 022 and 024.

I thought that at a minimum this question might be of interest to the vintage bike community here. I don't want to over-represent or under-represent a bicycle I'm interested in selling.

Ishiwata 025 was seamless Chrome-moly tubing like 022, just thicker walls.

Hi Darmstro,

Thank you for finding my 8+ month old post and confirming that mine is not the only 025 tubing Detel.

I have not been able to learn anything about the total production by mentioning it as part of a post. Perhaps a separate post with the question in the title might lead to the answer.
thanks,
