The Spanish Inquisition Thread -- Confess!
The recent Blasphemous Frejus Content thread along with the along with the horror I caused with what I'm doing to my Gios has me thinking it might be fun to have a thread where people are encouraged to confess their most heretical creations. Seriously, fun -- if this kind of thing actually upsets you or you are unhappy to hear disapproval of the work you've done, please look away now. Otherwise, feel free to comment expressing your utter disgust with the sins to which others admit herein.

I have a KMC quick link on a Campagnolo chain.
It's the only non-Italian branded part on the entire bike. |
I re-laced a NISI rim to a Shimano 105 hub.
It gets worse...I dimpled the 105 hub so that I could pass it off as an Italian hub complete with oil port dust cover, all for lust of a Hyperglide cassette. Just asking here.. Is it okay if I put.. I mean.. uhh.. a FRIEND put Campy NR on a Tenax frameset? ..not that I would do it... |

I have not yet been tarred and feathered for putting modern electronic shifting from Campagnolo onto a 1974 Schwinn Paramount, but I still retain all components (minus a working battery unit and those wheels...and the crankset, which I'd replace anyway) and remember it fondly. Before the "new" old battery unit died. It'd take the better part of $500-600 to get it back to this level, something I am a bit unwilling to do. Still, it was a really fun setup and I still really like the modern era of Campagnolo Ergo shifters.

I rode around for at least two months with mismatched DT shifters, I mean, both were Campy, but different models. Oh the shame.

Man every time I see that black Paramount (in all of its various incarnations) in various threads here on BF, I just like it more and more. The electronic-shifting Campy version is the best yet....
On to the topic: I have a Campy crank on a Motobecane Le Champion. And then I made it worse by replacing the Campy NR front derailleur with a Suntour vX.... so now the bike has a Campagnolo NR rear DR, Suntour front DR, Campy crank, and Dura-Ace brakes.... I have another Motobecane with a Stronglight 107 drive side crank arm, and a Sachs New Success left arm. France and Germany, side by side... (*why? because I screwed up tapping the LH pedal thread to 9/16, and it came out crooked.... killed another vintage part forever, sorry....) I have a really nice set of Cyclone 1st gen derailleurs on a very ordinary early gas pipe Univega Gran Rally, and I can't bring myself to take them off the bike because it rides so nicely... So many things to feel bad about... "Not the COMFY CHAIR!"...... |

I removed the original alloy crankset and square taper BB from my 70's Falcon and installed a chromed steel cottered crank & spindle....:p

I changed out the original stem, bar, and wheels on this Lenton...

Right now I have Japanese tires with a little Japanese flag on my Tommasini. However, about time I put those tires on, I upgraded the brakes (aesthetically at least) to Cobaltos, so maybe kind of even?

Honestly, I love the comments about people feeling guilty and switching things back to the pure path. You wouldn't know it from many of my bikes, but I actually feel this way myself about a lot of my component choices. There are just some choices I'm brazen about. For instance, a triple crankset on a KoM bike:
