What did you do on MLK Day?

Did you work, do chores around the house or ride a bike?

I read a portion of his 1956 speech in Buffalo. It was long. "If you can't be a highway, be a trail. If you can't be a tree, be a bush. If you sweep floors, sweep them the way Michel Angelo paints a gold street." It was intense. Quite inspiring.

Oh ya, and I cleaned my bike.

Wileyrat 01-21-19 06:57 PM

I went to the gym and lifted heavy things.

growlerdinky 01-21-19 07:00 PM

Sinus surgery.

dedhed 01-21-19 07:11 PM

Replaced brake lines in my plow truck and did a little XC skiing.

Troul 01-21-19 07:29 PM

Smoked pork & chilled on the back porch with a barrel of heat & fermented melon.

Milton Keynes 01-21-19 07:36 PM

Had to work.

Bandera 01-21-19 07:48 PM

Walked in the largest MLK Day march in the US, again.

I had a dream...

Three years ago, on MLK Day, I went out riding on a rainy day. I crashed and broke a finger.

This year I went riding again and this time there were nothing but blue, albeit windy, skies.

Nothing, after I fed my cats.

I had to work but was able to ride home under clear skies with crosswinds. Oh I found a makeup bag with vaping stuff inside on the side of the road. I hung it on a fence post.

Rode my bike, including a couple of 3 mile climbs into 20 mph headwinds, and appreciated how easy I've got it compared with some folks. Today. Subject to change at whim and anxiety attack.

The picture on my post is of farm fields in Oxnard, California. Most of my rides are by farm fields and/or by the ocean. In the summer the smell of strawberries, onions and cilantro fill the air—in the Spring it is orange blossoms. It is like riding through a giant salad. :D

I never find anything of interest on the road, however.

Before the Kale-O-fornians started to move to Idaho and building houses like Mormons pop out kids (kidding, originally from CA myself), my salad here was the smell of mint, strawberries and onions.

PT and then work. With a sub-zero windchill pretty much all day, I thought it too cold to ride.

12 miles in the local woods, and found Bigfoot's lair. 6 degrees at the start, going up to 10. Went to work later.

Deal4Fuji 01-22-19 07:58 AM

Below freezing all day here so I chose to work and ride another day.
Best use of the MLK dream speech in a song (2:25) I could have found a music thread for this and didn't think about it....day late

Kale-O-fornians are a scourge wherever they go, sort of like a plague of locust.

I really like the olfactory sensations of riding around here, especially the ocean breezes with the strong sea salts.

I usually take a ride, but it never got over 50 here and that's too cold for me. So I watched the races from Santa Anita instead.

55murray 01-22-19 08:09 AM

I drove to my workplace and retrieved what was left of my winter mountain bike after someone had stolen the wheel set, probably to get the studded tires. Was a long walk home on Friday.

mixteup 01-22-19 08:14 AM

Crawled in the dirt, working on replacing the rusted-out transmission cooler lines on our car - Still working on it today .......

freeranger 01-22-19 08:41 AM

It was one degree when I got up and about, it got up to 17 or 18, so I didn't ride! I shoveled some snow "paths" in the lawn so our chihuahua's could (hopefully) find a spot to do their "business". Then came in, filled up 2 buckets of hot water (to put into outside water buckets) and headed back out to let the horse out into the field, give him some sweet feed and hay, and clean up his stall and pen. Came back in and practiced some guitar, watched some shows I had recorded. Played some on the internet forums I visit which pertain to my hobbies. Retired, so during the winter months, my routine doesn't vary a lot.

wipekitty 01-22-19 12:03 PM

I applied to jobs in other countries, tried to ride my bike (road conditions + wind = bad), and practiced drums.

Nice one. I found my Anti-Flag t-shirt in the basement the other day.
