Bingo! Cool spot. Sorta feels like you’re going to ride out into the river. Nice 2013 shot.

Rode the '96 GT Outpost (my 'jeep') to check my new bluebird nesting box trail in a nearby county park.
Found signs of nest-building activity in two of the three boxes. Yes!

Long ride today through Northwestern Albemarle County with a brief dip into Greene County. I rode up Simmons Gap road which can get you onto Skyline Drive/Shenandoah National Park, but turned there and did some hard climbing and scary descending (one foot unclipped at points; ready to do the mtb downhill running dismount) down into Bacon Hollow. This followed the Roach River with some dream quality fresh pavement and gentle downhill.

Looking southwest, halfway up the Simmons Gap climb.

Lunch Stop - this is about 100m before the connector trail to Skyline Drive.

Cima Coppi for the day 2350 ft. There was a significant stretch 15-18% to get here. Today was the first time a rode it the whole way. Also first time I've ever ridden it with a 30t chain ring.

Snack stop along the Roach River. I was enjoying the water sounds and the scenery, enjoying a can of San Pellegrino, when a man about my age rides up on an ATV. He has a pinched angry face and is wearing those Oakley like sports sunglasses. I raise my can in a greeting as he rides up to me. By way of greeting me, he tells me he better not find my can laying on the ground and goes on at some length about the garbage he finds laying on the ground. I considered asking him what he would do if he found the can laying on the ground that didn't involve picking it up or leaving it there, but decided against that as it would lead to spending more time with the gent and I had better things to do. Without committing to any course of action involving said can, I told him not to worry and have a good day. He rode on, presumably to yell at his children or his dog. I struck this area of my list of places to consider if I decide to move out to the country. I crushed the can and tucked it back into my bag as I had planned before Mr Neighborhood Watch came along.

A few days ago, I dropped my spouse's car at the repair garage. It would have been about a 2.5 mile ride home, but I had extra time, so I made it into 16 miles. This is in High Falls, NY and environs.

We've been living here full time for over a year now. It's hilly. It's gotten to the point that I barely notice when I'm riding up these hills, and it feels great. I prefer hills to winds. The wind is rarely a challenge here because of hills and trees or whatever.

I searched this Bacon Hollow you speak of to see if it was some kind of pork 'end of the rainbow'. It seems to have been bootleg central at a time. You may have run into a retired ATF agent who now regulates beverage cans instead of stills...

I took today off work and we took the tandem out to the BFRT (pronounced "brft" I suppose, a.k.a. Bruce Freeman Rail Trail). Started at Heart Pond, went up to Chelmsford, back south to the end just north of Rt 2, then back to the car. A lovely day! 20 miles. Hard to argue with this experience.

Yeah, wouldn’t that be nice? No bacon smells, but you’ll get cow dung aroma around here. This area is an interesting mix of hill folk, working farms, and wealthy horse estates. Ironically, less than 1/4 mile from the encounter with the guy, I rode by a house that looked like a junkyard, but no cans on the road! One mile beyond that is Blue Ridge School, high dollar boarding school.

Ride home from work even though I was exhausted from driving for 10 hours.

Bianchi frame got cleaned and parts polished up a bit last night.

I'm enjoying the wild flowers while we have them; also enjoying the newly recovered saddle on my Allegro. @rhm did a fine job of bringing this old B-17 Champion Narrow back to life with a beautiful new cover. 35 miles was enough to let me know that this saddle is going to work out just fine.

Glad as always to post this thread

Got my 2nd Covid shot Wed. Thurs, after chores, I started a ride only to decide the legs were dead - and returned home.

No problem today, 50mi up to Marymoor Park and the Velodrome where I met another cycling enthusiast getting ready for some laps.

pics - riding The Karma bike. Touched and contributed to by many here on BF C&V.
Thanks to @Stevensb for 'starting the bike's latest cycle' - ie., reincarnation = saving it from possible scrap and offering to ship for @gugie 's repair. On these tires - it floats.

I cleaned out my desk at my job of 6.5 years this morning. Because my wife and I are moving to SC next week :D

What better way to celebrate than to ride all over town? Pretty picture perfect day as it was sunny and mid-upper 50°s with light-ish winds.

Met my friend a little after 10AM and he showed me all his favorite routes for a grand total of 52 miles.

I'm on the chrome SLT, of course ;)

Today is my 61st birthday, which means I was compelled to do a 61-mile ride. Weather at the start was light rain and about 40 degrees. Stayed like that for the first 30 miles, but that’s better than yesterday’s snow. Conditions improved on the second half, but glad I rode a fendered bike.

Found some dirt in Bedford, MA:

Maybe some day ...I may grow up and make my bikes as practical as many of yours are. But today is not that day.

scozim 04-17-21 07:07 PM

Swapped in a different wheelset because I haven't had time to go through the hubs on the other one I have for the bike. I just really wanted to get a shakedown ride in. So 24 miles later and a few minor adjustments and am mightily impressed with the ride. I'll definitely need a little longer stem. I like my Super Vitus framed rides but this could easily be a go to bike. Really curious to get the other one up and running with the 8 spd Campagnolo group since it fits just a little better and will run tubulars.

Thanks!

We're headed to Greenville, nestled up fairly close to the mountains in the NW region of the state.

Thanks for your well wishes, I don't know how this flatlander is going to survive actual climbs
