Well BF Pinarello’s are distributed and duplicated in a number of threads but there isn't one specifically dedicated to them. Since I have acquired a couple, I thought it was time to have a focal point thread on the marque.

Let's see if we can pull together some history through links or text with pictures.

If your bike is near original or period correct with original paint and decals, please let us know. You may go nuts on the description if you like but let’s at least include what the year range might be with model or speculate which model and why you think so.

Of course the most valuable link for many of us is are the catalogs listed on Bulgier.

I have two threads on the two bikes shown below. The first is the Tre Crime which was configured with a franken group. Currently it is being stripped for a repaint as described in the thread. It is a 57cm ctc. I have no clue of the year although I suspect it is around a 1987.

This model was created to celebrate a bike designed by Giovanni Battaglin himself, especially for the climb of Tre Cime di Lavaredo in Giro d'Italia in 1981.the first Pinarello with triple Campy cranks modified by Pinarello. The one he road was the top of the line at the time. Although Campagnolo was providing triple cranks for Schwinn, Giovanni modified a Record crank for Battaglin.

The gruppo sold on this bike was Victory as it was the third level down from Montello at the time. My build will be Suntour Superbe Pro below the TT.

Pinarello steel history

The second is a Montello which I believe is either an ‘88 or ‘89 in the Spumoni paint scheme, 58cm ctc. The assessment is based on the bulgier catalog where the color was first introduced in ‘88. Prior scheme that looks like it is call “Italian Ice” and is not quite the same. This bike is Dura Ace equipped below the TT. The headset is C-Record and the post is American Classic.
The plan for this bike is simply to clean it up with new housings and bar tape. Most of the decals are intact. The paint is faded but not enough to warrant a repaint like the Tre Crime. The saddle is a bit beat up but with a little cleaner, shoe polish and contact cement, it should be good for pictures!

Pinarello Asolo, Dolmen tubing (made by Dedacciai for Pinarello), Veloce 9sp, Mavic MA2 rims.

I believe my Pinarello Record is an '83. These were sold as framesets. I bought the frameset earlier this year for super cheap and built it up with Campy Nuovo Record/Record. It is in near perfect condition.

I have a blue 1990 Montello acquired from an ex-racer co-worker for $50 in 2005. It had been crashed in a criterium race and suffered some front end damage but was re-aligned by local builder. There are still some slight bulges in the top and down tubes but still rides great. Maybe a little twitchy but that may be how it handled originally. I'll never know. Here's some before and after pics with stock replacement fork. The original fork was destroyed and is long gone.

Here's mine, as bought. The Shimano Tourney shifters work with the Campy everything else. Sadly This one has to be sold as despite all my wanting it not to be, it's too small.

Not a true "Classic and Vintage" as the crankset is too new, the cassette is 7-speed freehub and the brakes are Campagnolo Avanti. The RD is Record but the glare blotted out the lettering.

@bbattle - Didn't like white?! :) Great looking bike! I am torn on the finish of mine. May just have to hang onto it and do it justice in the future. I noticed the rust around a hole on the NDS seat stay of the original pics. I have the same! Seeing that was reassuring!

The white paintjob was not original and was badly done. The frame is full chrome, but like Rad has said, only the parts meant to be seen are shiny, the rest is dull.

OK well the Tre Crime, or the all blue one above, is original and didn't survive time well at all. It is nearly bare at this point. Having some difficulty in getting the rest off.

the colors in the catalogue show pink-ish and light blue, right?
and this tri-color gradient on white is rather found on other models, i know.

it was a guess work based on things here and ther as i wasn't able to 'pin-point'.
(ppl also suggested it'd be nearly impossible to do so in the world of mid-low level Pinarello.)
other than color, some specifics—tubing, lug shape, panto style, seat stay cuts, bb, and etc—seemed to match Tre Cime closest.

please suggest, if i need to take a different path to identify it. :)

btw, status on the build is that: it is yet to find the right handle bar to be completed as a single speed. just can't decide...

@orangeology - I remember that thread as I found it after aquiring my Tre Crime. At least I think that is what it is. The major difference between it and most of the others is that there absolutly no chorme anywhere on the frame without the GPT on the seat stay caps and a plain BB shell. In fact, it looks like a Cinelli or third party shell with a CS bridge. No question it is a Pin. Just not clear what model or year! I need to take some pictures of the frame after the clean up but here is an as purchased pic of the BB

I have no reason to believe this is a repaint either, but who knows. At least your Head Badge was good! Don't know what to do whith this. Maybe keep it with the Patina as a reference!

The bike as purchased was about 22lbs so I think the tubing is of respectable quality, certainly not gas pipe!

Same on my frame. The ST mounts had headless, flush 5mm screws on straight from the factory (I bought this frame NOS).

testimonials around flushed bottle cage bosses are also in my earlier post.
seems a pretty common practice from that era of Pinarellero.

mine was all-chromed under the paint. another big reason why its so flaky all over.
it's pretty much look like original paint, don't see any provenance of re-paint. i could be wrong.
good and bad i guess. ppl don't seem to be fans of Pinarello's paint job anyway.

mine still has the tubing sticker on both frame and the fork: Matrix. thin and relatively light, no gaspipe. :)
din't want to repaint it, at least at the moment. like what it is now.

Regarding my bike.
Is there a recommended way to remove the last remnants of the PINARELLO on the DT and ST?
And...
What is a good source for replacement decals, or as a friend of mine would remind me that they went on after paint so they are stickers. :twitchy:

OR. Just keep riding it?
