2nd annual Bourbon and Tobacco Tour of western Kentucky

Reschedule dates: The ride is now scheduled for the weekend of June 1-2. Hopefully the weather will be more cooperative this time around.

The plans are in motion for the 2019 ride, planned for the weekend of April 13, 2019. The C&V ride is on Saturday, roughly 40 miles long. On Sunday, we'll take some fatter-tired bikes to LBL and ride the trails - either singletrack or gravel, as you prefer.

The ride information is here, including lodging, location, and dates/times. I'll keep it updated should adjustments be needed.

There is no cost for this ride, and we're having a cookout after the ride on Saturday. We might visit the Casey Jones Distillery after Saturday's ride to sample some local bourbon. Probably better to visit after as opposed to before the ride - just sayin'.

So all y'all come on down to western Kentucky, sample some bourbon, see some nice C&V bikes, meet the C&V glitterati, and go for a nice ride in the LBL.

Hoping to make it back again, since I sort of have a streak going and all...

Was a good time last go-round, and having a few more BF folks would make it even better.

My daughter lives in Louisville & this might be a perfect excuse to come down to Ky for part of a week. I live in Dayton, Ohio & would enjoy bringing my Masi for a vintage ride. The bourbon part sounds intriguing too. There is a bike shop in one of Louisville’s historic districts where the owner specializes in vintage. Sorry, I don’t remember the name of the shop - it might have the person’s first name but I’m not sure. There was an amazing taco place down the block and across the street, I know that.

I am in. Should be a good time. I'll start looking for libations, and maybe a cigar or two.

I think I've been to that shop in Louisville. They put a lot of stuff on CL. I'll need to find that taco place.
Louisville is 100 miles from me, not a bad drive, and an active CL for bikes, and now with tacos, too!

This will have to replace my Misaligned Minds ride in Paducah, as the Coppi Centenario is the same weekend.

Given the schedule, I'll drive down that morning, bring a roadie for Saturday, and either my Klein with 28's for Sunday or my modern steel Wraith, also with 28's.
The Klein has bags, so that's the likely ticket.

So lots of drinking and smoking then? Sounds good! :thumb: Too bad I'm so far away. :(

Have fun!

Kewl!

The taco place had a Mexican wrestling theme with a collection of colorful masks on the walls - “think Jack Black in Nacho Libre”.

I’d like to see your Klein. I’m still needing to put my $160 Phil Wood outboard bottom bracket bearings into my $60 1988 Klein Quantum to make it worthy of supporting 24mm Shimano Hollowtech cranks.

Coming up from Elvisland again, wouldn't miss it if I can help it. Still building the bike I expect to bring along, slow going but it'll get there.

The only smoking that happens, occurs when Robbie drops us all. :D

Rumor has it some Northern Illinois/Southern Wisconsin folks are making the trip...

This sounds really good! How is the terrain, the climbing?

If you click on the route map or the Ride With GPS image, you'll go to the route map which includes elevation and climb data. The route includes about 2300 feet of climbing over the entire length.

It would be great to have you come to western Kentucky and join us.

speedevil 01-06-19 08:16 PM

Move this back to the top. C'mon folks, y'all know you want to ride in beautiful western Kentucky in the springtime. And there's a cookout. And there's bourbon. And bikes.

Should be a good weekend.
Disconnect, ride, then return to The World.
Times to disconnect are so few and far between.

My birthday weekend, what a treat that would be (apart from the smoking). Would love to be there, but several thousand km too far.

masi61 01-12-19 01:00 PM

I would like to try to make it. I’ll be marking the dates on my calendar & telling work that I’ll be on vacation (that is if it is my weekend to work @ the hospital)

I might bring one of my 2 Masi’s.

speedevil 01-12-19 05:36 PM

@masi61, it would great to have you here.

seedsbelize 01-13-19 09:33 AM

If it were a month later........May is still chilly for these tropical bones. April is not even considered.

speedevil 01-13-19 12:11 PM

@seedsbelize, maybe you need to begin your temperature acclimatization in Kentucky in mid-April. It's usually in the 60s and lows in the 40s. Pretty nice riding temps, actually.

speedevil 01-18-19 09:38 AM

Bump back to the top. C'mon folks, let's make this a great ride. You can see all the details here. Don't forget to register, so that I can be sure to have enough food for the post-ride cookout.

USAZorro 01-18-19 10:23 AM

Nothing seems to be happening when I click Register... and I did the math - unless it's hex, and expecting "A".

speedevil 01-18-19 05:01 PM

I've updated the registration code, and added a confirmation email to the configuration. it does display a message, even on firefox, but I will admit that it isn't completely obvious. The confirmation email should help to let folks know that the registration was received.

I apologize for the inconvenience, and thanks for the patience.
