Shirts with rear pockets

I have been looking for regular breathable shirts that have rear pockets like jerseys do. I like to wear normal shorts on all my rides no matter if I am going for a ride to the store or a 5 day bike packing trip or doing MTB, Gravel etc. I hate the way jerseys look and feel on me. I like a shirt that is casual and not too snug. The problem is I really love the utility of the rear pockets on cycling jerseys. But, unless I am not looking in the right place it seems nobody is making such an item. I have even considered taking a bunch of my favorite riding shirts and have a seamstress sew some on for me. A hip pack might solve this as well but that is a bit more weight, bulk and overkill. Does anyone know of a brand or place that sells such an item? Even if they were the 3/4 style jerseys that are sold as "Enduro" mtb jerseys had them. Am I the only one?

Cafe du Cycliste makes some. They're $$$, though.

If you are going to use regular shirts, I hope you ride very upright so I don't have to wince if I get sight of your plumbers butt hanging off the saddle. <grin>

Just sew them on. Buy two of the same shirt and cannibalize one for the same material. It's not a complicated thing to sew. If you need a seamstress, then rates vary drastically with them depending a lot on how in demand they are.

I wouldn't even worry about the same pattern. Just use a solid complementary color for the pockets. Cool project.:thumb:

What about something like this? It seems unobtrusive and would eliminate the need to modify every shirt.

Short of having some tailoring done, I'd just go with something like what Sal Bandini suggested. Heck, before I caught on to dedicated bike jerseys, I used to use a hip pack from Walmart. I'll bet it cost under$10.

I have seen quite a few loose fitting jerseys out there and maybe try a vintage style that is one or two sizes larger than needed

Vintage cycling jersey from eBay
This one has three nice pockets on the back and is very breathable . I paid about $25 a few years ago . I don't know what the lettering is about but it works.

For casual rides, I switched to a handlebar bag. No shirt pockets needed.

I'd had bought two of those if they came in all black & insulated. I hate **** designs that take up a large area of the product. You don't see that happening on normally purchased eggs & gallons of milk.

I use cargo pants with a lot of pockets and a camelback which gives me plenty of room to store all kinds of essentials. I don't need a jersey with back pocket.

I sometimes wear a Filson Travel Vest with multiple pockets including one in the back. Apparently those have been discontinued, but there are many vests on a wide price range called photographer's vests. Basically the same thing as my Filson. You might find a Filson on auction sites but it will pricy.

My wife got me super slim variant of that I loved for just a phone and ID. With different bike, my frame mount pump wasn't going to work so looked for alternative to traditional jersey myself. REI has several cycling t-shirts except they don't have pockets, so what makes them a cycling t-shirt, I feel that's misleading marketing. Anyway best compromise I've found is club fit jersey, even though the typical materials (synthetic) suck and they are way overpriced. Only buy on deep discount.

Yep, and it's excellent stuff. Worth every penny, in my opinion. I bought this one because it was exactly what I was looking for; I think it's great. Ordering another. Bonus: the design/logo etc. has a fantastic poseur quotient; doesn't bother me -- I've always been closet Euro-trash anyway.

Somebody should really make dress shirts with back pockets. The ultimate business commuter garb. ;)

You could always look into sneaky bib liners / cargo bibs with pockets that hide underneath your standard shirts

or make ties with vertically stacked "jersey" pockets on the backside. Imagine the convince? Two water bottles & a staining banana all up front while wearing a slick city fitted Dolce & Gabbana.

Check out Club Ride. They have a bunch of casual riding gear with well thought out pockets and vents. https://www.clubrideapparel.com/

The Voler Enduro jersey has a stash pocket. Don’t have one but have a jersey made by them without any pockets. Nice stuff. I may get one of these but the pocket may not be big enough for your liking.

I find myself drawn to the lumberjack jersey/jacket for similar reasons, but can't justify the cost for something that would mostly be to make me smirk. Then there are a number of pieces that I just genuinely like, but again, $$$. They're on the sooner-rather-than-later list, though.

My main concern is, if I wear anything resembling cycling garb, it will call attention to how slow I am, and what a klunker I'm riding.

But if you are dressed correctly and look the part with cycling garb, then you'll feel the part and you'll play the part better. So you'll have to be faster..... even if it's in your own mind or ours. <grin>

Anytime I overhear someone talk about "that omg dangerous cyclist" that's "All geared up" is most often referenced to the weirdly shaped helmet, exposed black colored knee & elbow guards, bikini like shorts & huge eyewear.
If none of that is normal attire for you, I'd not be too concerned with the other garbage. It's def a YMMV tho.

AdkMtnMonster 03-24-21 08:14 AM

I have several mtb jerseys that fit like t-shirts, have rear pockets, very small logos. PI, Zoic, Singketrack Mind. That stuff is out there. I wouldn’t wear it for everyday use, though, because I wear pants or shorts, which, uh, already have pockets. I’m growed up. Mama said so.

I got a kick out of their lumbersexual line last year, but all I am seeing now are the $110 deerskin work gloves.

You mean you're not interested in a $64 (Cdn) beanie? Bargain!
