Hybrid/Fitness bike recommendations and advice?

've been researching for a little while but I'm still undecided on what to go with. I'm looking for a good FAST hybrid/road bike the has FLAT bars and a generally upright position to feel comfortable and to get back into riding and shed some pounds. I will be mainly doing a lot of city/road riding. Think of NYC roads so it needs to be durable. I've checked Facebook/CL/Offerup but seems like they just have pretty old bikes there. I've looked into bikes-direct (motobecane).

I was looking at these bikes for my type of riding. How do they compare to each other based on specs/value? I'm looking for the best bang for your buck essentially. I'm OPEN to OTHER options as well around the $550 range of course if theres any other suggestions please do let me know. Whatever’s the best bang for your buck at that price point I’ll purchase. How do these compare to Giant/Trek/Sirrus ? I appreciate the help. Thank you.

I bought a Trek DS2 hybrid last year for $680, I've been happy with it, great on paved roads, ok on dirt/trails. Seems pretty fast, safe, fun, plenty of exercise.

Their fun bikes but everything on your list I looked at out of stock or call local bike shops if in stock. Good luck on your search

So any suggestions?

Ive heard good things about the Trek FX1or 2 -almost bought one- but then Giant and Cannondale are good choices too. It's a matter of what looks you like and also how each rides. I wouldn't buy new though unless you have extra money to spend. I bought my bike in like-new condition on CL for 1/3 the price at the shop. Yes I know it might be a while before you find what you're looking for but there are dozens and dozens of bikes on sale on CL every day but you just have to look several times a day (late night and early morning) because good bikes get snatched within hours.

Jamis Coda S2. Slightly above your budget, but it'll do what you want; speed is up to you. The big plus is it's cromo steel.

1. Get one.
2. Get a used one.
3. Get a good used one.
4. Get a good used late-model one.
5. Get the absolute best one you could afford.
6. Ride for as long as you can, as often as you can.

All bike shop brands include "fitness" types now .. At Trek, it's their FX line..

The fitnessbbike trend is even trickling down into the big box bike world - check out Kevcentral's channel on YouTube for an example or two.

Aside: reminded me of the rules of adjective order, which I was never taught in school and had pointed out to me by a German
