50ies, Cinelli Model B

Hi,
you guys might remember me. I showed my '54 Cinelli SC a year ago. Last week I got a Cinelli Model B, badly oversprayed with non original fork. Might get some of the original parts of the last owner if he can find them.
Got it for the price of the badge and saddle bolt.
Currenlty it's in a paint shop to get the finish off.
Will post more Pictures then and will be glad discussing Age and Details.

What's the size of the headbadge?

Simplex or Campagnolo rear dropouts?

Replacement fork?

iab 03-19-18 03:44 PM

What's wit the head tube down tube lug? Front end damage?

It does look like some damage. That's definitely a frame worth the fix though.

gmanella 03-20-18 08:20 AM

It's the larger badge like on my '54 >>> 56mm.
The fork of course is not original finding an orignal one
at reasonable price is quite challenging.
Not sure about the dropouts. I will
get the frame back tommorrow.

I allready have the original Campa Gran Sport rear derailleur &
orignal not branded seat post.

A box with more original parts & wheelset is sitting somewhere
at the seller's dad attic. I also try to talk to that guy (the dad)
to get some more Infos of the bikes history.

nice find, keep us updated! i do have a 60ies Mod B, if i can help, just holler!

Wulf 03-20-18 01:15 PM

Was the derailer hanger cut off to make a fixie?

juvela 03-20-18 01:27 PM

one of the earlier liveries appears to have been verdurous

does that appear to be the original finish or be it one of the other kaleidoscope members?

ends set appears to be either Juy or Agrati and made without gear hanger

gmanella 03-20-18 02:15 PM

The original finish might have been under the mess.
Could have been a cremish colour, but overall too bad to
try to dig down there (and to lazy of course).

Thanks for the response.

One of the "stock" Cinelli house colours was an antique white.

Did one of my '60's era examples up in it.

The creme color was big with the early bikes, seems to mr kind of loses favor by the mid fifties. But that that last part is pure speculation on my part.

I would still like to see a closeup on the rear dropouts.

Got the frame back today.
Looks quite good.
Intersting are the two leftside Simplex dropouts.
If someone is interested in a special detail I'm happy to
provide a pic:

Readers interested in the Model B might like to see this one done up in Flandria livery for Sercu. Looks to date from near to 1965.

Mild understatement. ;)

Is it clear on who built the Mod B? I’ve always preferred the look of them to their higher end brethren.

There is a light blue mod b in the Chicago area that might be the last bike I would like to add to the collection. I don’t believe the owner has any interest in selling it though. (I may not be able to afford it anyway.)

i guess i will keep casually watching ebay and CL for a 59-61 c-t frame or bike with original paint.

repechage 12-22-18 10:26 AM

The paint removal certainly cleared up some of the questions.

going to be an interesting question on how to address the chrome plating. I have found modern platers just don’t comprehend partial submersion.
what you learn about chrome removal- I would be happy to learn about... tell the plater that the tubes have chromium in the steel and they get nervous.
