If you have any beater SSFG bikes that you built up for next to nothing please post here. Mine is a Vilano that I pieced together for a total of $54, which was the cost of the frameset in an eBay auction including shipping. All the other parts were takeoffs from other bikes that I upgraded and used parts that were just gathering dust. The frame is definitely too big for me, but was the smallest available so I have to be careful with my dismounts. I use it when I go somewhere that it might get stolen or damaged.

I found the bike in the trash in my neighborhood and it looked like it had been backed over by a car - the left chainstay and seatstay were pushed in slightly and the rear wheel was a taco with a bunch of broken spokes. The fork is also slightly bent. The rest of the parts literally came from assorted other trash finds and unwanted used/junk parts laying around the shop. It was originally set up with a suicide hub (yes, brakeless) that I would intentionally try to kill and the damn cog never budged. After riding a few miles coming home from the beach with a flat tire on the day that top pic was taken because I was too lazy to stop and fix it, the rim was all sorts of messed up so I threw on a rear wheel that I found near another local shop's dumpster and made it single speed because I had a freewheel sitting here that had come off some kid's BMX.

The only thing I actually spent money on was the Vuelta Pista crankset after I snapped the stock SR nds crank arm, which was a whopping 32 bucks at dealer cost.

Bridgestone Kabuki... only out of pocket cost was the wheels and tyres.

I don't know that I would call any of the bikes so far beaters.. still a fun thread though.

Here is an actual beater.... Started its life as one of those target bikes... And as it stands, its not all that far from one... I havent ridden it all that much so far (mostly ridden by my dad when he comes for a visit) so it is still bright and shiny...

I realize there are some obvious issues with matching, angles, etc. etc.

Frame + fork cost $10, the rest came of throw-out heaps.
The only bike I own with flat pedals. Found out by accident that it can run a magic ratio, good thing seeing as the hanger threads are stripped.

Here's my beater... built off of an old frame I got for $20 on CL and rounded out with leftover parts I had in the basement. This thing was my first foray into FG riding. It's now for sale on CL, and the proceeds will help fund a better build.

Those vintage Centurions were definitely good bikes with midgrade lugged steel frames. Definitely well above beater quality.

picked up a two-tone Pake Rum Runner frame for $99 new an threw on whatever extra parts i had in the garage. a great ride.

peugeot conversion. haven't accumulated a stock piles of parts yet - had to buy rear wheel + cranks - still beater status.

had to invest in a proper saddle though

My only fixie, came pre rattle painted, I added the tacky reflective tape. Definitely a beater.
