I stopped setting goals because every time I did, Something Happened. I'd rather surprise myself pleasantly than disappoint myself.

But I'm over 1100 miles already this year, so I'm curious where I'll end up.

Had family hiking activity plans for the mountains today, but it's raining there. Sad.

I decided to take one more day off and not ride today.

Hopefully the storm waits long enough tomorrow for me to get a ride in!

I carry my health insurance card, an emergency phone number, and a little bit of cash in my phone case.

My sister and her husband have a security code to punch in if approaching the garage on foot. Never locked out. Unless of course you've crashed and have amnesia. I did that once.

I used to bring my keys with me. But I lost two sets while riding last year, after that I just started bringing the garage clicker. I have no idea how my keys fell out of my rear pocket, but it happened twice.

I can't remember if I ever did that.

I've come to love the little zipped pocket on the Rapha Core jerseys for just this type of thing - fits some cards/cash and a key or two perfectly. I like them so much that I decided against buying a Lightweight Core jersey (more breathable) when I saw that they didn't have the zipped pocket.

I have a house key on a paracord loop I wear around my neck. It's long enough to go over my head with the helmet on. I once lost a key from a saddlebag, so nothing of real value goes in there anymore. I put my license and some cash in a freezer style zipper bag with my phone and that goes in the jersey pocket.

I've begun experimenting again with (brewed?) coffee. Yesterday was pour over, so weak as to be worthless. Today I did the french press. I could taste it at least. Tomorrow I plan to try an espresso like french press.
I saw, on a TedTalk, that coffee is at its best when drunk within 24 hours of being roasted. I'd like to try that out, but have two kilos of roasted here. At two or three cups per month, it will take awhile to get through it.

That's odd. For what brewing method? For espresso, I've always heard that you wanted the beans to be 7+ days old to allow for some kind of off-gassing following the roasting process.

I carry my wallet and keys in a seatbag. A few years ago I forgot to zip it up and lost my wallet. Everything was in there, credit card, social number, ID, $100 cash, etc.
The slimeball who found it started opening accounts, credit cards, and phone numbers all over Southern California. I have one of those services that notifies you every time there is an inquiry on your credit and it allowed me to stop the accounts quickly and I didn't lose money,, but this was probably due to the ineptitude of the offender, at least in part.

I learned that the person committing the fraud has more rights than the person who had their identity stolen. Banks, phone companies, and creditors will protect the information of the fraud even though you can prove you are the person on the account. A couple of them did let a few clues go, however. One told me the e-mail of the account which is how I found out where the fraud lived. Cops wouldn't do anything, though.

I found out 3 Verizon accounts were started in a Radio Shack in Bakersfield which is about 90 miles from here. I called Radio Shack and they said they video taped all the people starting Verizon accounts but they wouldn't tell me anything else without a warrant. I called the Bakersfield PD and they said they wouldn't issue a warrant because I wasn't a resident of Bakersfield, said if I could get my local PD involved then they would help. I was living in the unincorporated county so I called the Sheriff and they said fugettaboutit.

I spoke to an LAPD officer that I know and he said identity theft is so huge, so prevalent that they don't usually get involved unless big money has been stolen or someone has been hurt. He said he could arrest the guy but he would be out right away and probably not face major charges.

I think we are all in trouble then. Sad!

Well, at this rate, all we have to do is 350 miles and we're good - easy peasy.

You were right. Just got off the phone with Apple. Tried a few things that did not work. Couldn't even reset the phone. Then the guy the precise model number. Bingo. Turns out units with my model number produced between a certain time frame spanning 2016 to 2018 are prone logic board failures. Company is entitled to free repair or replace. I am hoping they order me a new one right away and then sort things out with Apple.

Also, I don't know if it's going to happen this week, but I do want to get in a 200k some time soon.

Not likely for me. I typically can ride 3x/week. We are talking an epic century for Saturday, but even so that gets me 200-ish miles for the week. I am well over 5K for the year, so that's not bad.

I read a book somewhere.

Generally something external, like smoke from wildfires making the whole Bay Area hazardous to breathe for 3 weeks. That kind of thing.

A couple weeks ago, I got a text that an $8 purchase had been made in Australia on one of my credit cards. Normally, when you call an issuing bank about something like this, it's bing-bang-boom and they're happy to shut it down.

When I called this time, US Bank/REI card, it was like pulling teeth. "Are you currently traveling?" Uh, during the pandemic? No. "Were you in Australia?" Uh, during the pandemic? No. "When was the last time that you used the card?" I don't know - it's been several months. "With which vendor did you last use the card?" I don't know - it's been several month. "Are you going to file a police report?" Over an $8 charge? Do I need to do that in order to dispute the charge with you? "Well, it is a felony." So do I need to file a report? "No, but if you do, we need to have the case number." Okay, if I decide to file a police report about the $8 made by a person in Australia, can I just call you back with the case number? "Yes, you can do that." Okay, why don't we go with that route for now. :rolleyes:
