chainstay protector
not sure what to do for a chainstay protector for my colnago after the repaint. what have you guys done.
|
I'm low budget. A strip of electrical tape does it for me.
|
It depends on how much you like the bike. You liked it enough to repaint, so I'd buy this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-CAMPAGNO...item1c2296efcd I've got that on my Primato (thanks to the good taste of the original owner) and Marnati and think it looks sharp. These are out there too: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-COLNAGO-BI...item256c1ec6cf http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-CHAINSTA...item1c237b368e http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-COLNAGO-...item1c23ecc6fd |
it originally just had chrome tape, i like that one better, thanks
|
If you twine the ends of your bartape, you can do similar along the chainstay. Tedious, but kind of cool.
|
I just bought this stuff for a bike. I haven't yet installed it.
|
im thinking about getting some chrome tape and cutting it to match the original one. just not sure how durable it will be.
|
Skate board grip tape works rather well and looks interesting too, but isn't for a Colnago.
|
Thank you I do want to try to keep
The Originality |

I have used this "Chrome Brite Metallic Tape" from the Auto parts store on occasion. It is easy to work with, sticks well, and looks OK. (-and it's inexpensive.)

http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...1&d=1329597900 I actually saw a kid rid most of a 'cross race after the tubulars flatted and came off. he now owns some big company in Boston and was featured in a recent issue of Bicycling magazine |

Wouldn't wrapping cord around the stay absorb moisture and tend to cause corrosion? I know, it's all painted, but holding moisture against it for extended time seems like trouble.
|
I use a clear vinyl non adhesive film on my bikes or motorcycles. Not the exact same stuff but kinda like this, you can't really see it and it works great. Plus you can cut it with scissors to whatever size and shape you need. http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Clear-OP...item1e6ad3e4b8

Consistent with the right style, this works well. And it can be refreshed with more shellac or more tape and shellac.

I think this one just soaked it......you actaully do want a chainstay protector like they used to make in the old days. I'm learning.........:o think vintage

a-she's tough enough to ride without tires.......or b-doesn't realize they're missing. Some fine fellow here arranged a group order, from Soma, of those chrome chainstay protectors. I participated and wished I'd bought a dozen. Easy to put on, great to look at, and appropriate for all my bikes. I've used the Lizardskin protector, and find it very protective, both in black and clear. |
