Raleigh Vintage Bike
Hi all,
I am new here and tried to post some pictures of a vintage bike that I just acquired. Do post need to be approved before they are posted? I keep getting a message about having to have 10 posts before proceeding. Thanks for any advice! |
YOu need ten posts to attach a picture - 5/day
I believe you can upload them to your album and then others can look at them. |
Thank you!

OP, when you do get the requisite ten posts be sure to post with pix in the Classic & Vintage forum where your Raleigh will be appreciated.

Not really.
For people who like bikes, the drive train is an interesting aspect to look at and one way to identify year/make/model. - you can tell a lot of what's going on by it. And no one said mandatory. |

Nice of you on posting gallery but drive side pics mandatory is just silly

Not really, drive side gives a much better idea of component level and age, particularly of vintage derailleur equipped bikes.

Thanks everyone! And for the link to my pictures.
I've been looking for a couple hours to try to find info about the age of the bike. I have learned a lot about these cool bikes in a short amount of time. I think it is a 1971 from my research. How much does the markings such as decals tell the age? Thanks again for your help! |

How much does the markings such as decals tell the age?! Look for a date on the 3 speed Sturmey Archer rear hub. Likely an AW hub as well. Look around here as well. https://www.sheldonbrown.com/retroraleighs/ |
If you plan on working on it read this.

Vintage raleighs are just beautiful.

Color by the way is "bronze green"

Pic assist:
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...b391a88ba7.jpg Looks like a 1970s Raleigh "Sports." Nothing fancy, but these make great city bikes. Stately ride, low maintenance, thieves tend to ignore them. Should clean up nidely. Needs to have that rear mudguard fastened properly, though. |
Classic & Vintage forum has a thread on something like 'love of Classic 3 speeds' or something like that. I recommend that thread in particular and C & V in general for you.

Classic bikes are always a good choice
|
This is the thread you want:
https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-v...-3-speeds.html Regarding your bike, it has the fairly rare 23" ladies' frame. Taller riders like 'em. I have one just like it, waiting in the wings for the day when I can no longer swing a leg over my men's 23" Sports but still want to ride. Look on the rear hub shell for a date code; a '71 will have a year followed by a month, like 71 (big space) 6 for June of the year. Normal to assume the bike was built shortly after the hub was. It looks like you have a shop sticker on the seat tube. You might want to post a pic of it in the Shop Stickers thread. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...4624e09e2c.jpg |
Picked this Raleigh Sports up for my wife in early March. 1976 vintage.

And a whole thread for this bike? Nobody's making you click, scroll or post. I like those old Raleigh 3 speeds. Had a couple of them in the mid-1970s when you could buy them for a few bucks at a garage sale. |

And best of luck to the OP.
I had this one a couple years ago and I thought it odd that many people wanted it. Paid $15 for it. Sold for $120 as is. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...85aabf21d9.jpg |
