You win.

Tom Stormcrowe 09-15-06 08:38 PM

Not trying to win, just trying to get some people to post their success stories as well! I don't care if you've lost the kind of weight I have or 30 or 50 pounds, it's still tough to do!http://www.cosgan.de/images/midi/sportlich/n055.gif

You can click on the traineo link in my sig to get the before picture. There is no after picture yet. ;)

Seriously though, I started around ~290. I started traineo about a week ago, so it doesn't count the ~21 pounds I lost in the last three months before starting traineo. I should get a new picture soon.

Well, keep at it and you'll get there!:D Make sure you keep a series of photos instead of waiting til you hit your goal.I wish I had thought of this, but if you use the same shirt and set a footpoint and specific focal fiels, you could do a yearlong timelapse to show yourself shrinking by stacking stills with Windows moviemaker at a frame rate of 40 fps! (0.025 sec duration on the frame rollover):D You are early enough in your progress to think about this!

I might have to try this. That could be fun!

Care to comment on HOW you did this? Surgery, diet, biking (how far and long).

garysol1 09-16-06 04:24 AM

I started riding in April of last year.
weight was 255 with a 42in waist.
1.5 years later.....172lbs with a 33in waist
Old me

Both of you did a great job!

How much riding did it take for both of you?

When I moved to Cali last year I gained all the weight back that I lost, so being back home I am working at losing it again. When I left my lean mass was 172 and I'm down to about 165 now, so I doubt I will ever get to 172 total weight, but I would be happy with a 175 lean and 200 total body putting me at 12.5% body fat.

I never heard of the term "Clydesdale" for a large sized biker before, it evokes images of power and grace. The image didn't fit me when I was well over 200 lbs. Now I'm around 180. When I was over 200lbs I tried dieting and regular long distance biking and all weather commuting. I even had this nice carbon fiber bike. The flab kept increasing with age. I dumped the car. I dumped the 21lb carbon bike for a 35lb utility bike. The flab melted away. Maybe a coincidence but I think not. Something about being car free seemed to bump up my metabolism. I think other people over on the Living Car Free sub forum have similar stories.

I had bariatric surgery in March, 2005. I was in a position where I had to get the surgery due to the fact that my weight was literally killing me. I didn't overeat, I have a metabolic disease involving my pituitary called Empty Sella Syndrome as well as diabetes. I am now off insulin and maintaining normal blood sugars, off all my heart meds and Oxygen supplementation and this summer, I put 3747 miles on the bike.:D

All you guys did great!

Damn, I am only looking to loose about 30lbs.

Of you guys that lost a lot of weight, what was the single biggest improvement in your life from the result of all that sweat equity?

Every time I look in the mirror I get this huge feeling of accomplishment. Before the weight loss I was a bit shy and was always very self conscious. I would always pull at my shirt because I thought it made my man boobs look smaller. I never took my shirt off at the beach or pool because I was so embarrassed. I love knowing that while I won't ever be a model, I have done the most with what I have.

lodi781 09-18-06 07:34 AM

damn!! nice work guys.......last year I was 254, this morning, 216. By dec I want to be 180.........

Little Darwin 09-18-06 08:05 AM

I don't have a really good before picture when I weighed 421.5, but I have lost 101 pounds, with about 120 more to go. I have plateaued over the past year or two, but I am done farting around. I will post pictures as I progress.

Thanks all for the inspiration!

My long term survival. I was on Oxygen, as well as many meds, just to stay alive. The biggest accomplishment to me was going from a wheelchair in March 2005 to riding a 167 mile 1 day ride this year. My long term goals include Lotoja.. http://xs306.xs.to/xs306/06371/Animal_races.gif
