Bikepacking Valles Caldera Supervolcano New Mexico - Video
 

Hi everyone. Recently returned from a 4-day bikepacking trip in New Mexico's Valles Caldera Supervolcano. I wanted to share a video with you all. Throughout my life, I realize when something excites you and scares you at the same time, it’s probably something you need to do. It requires courage, drudgery, positive self-talk and many deep breaths. Fear lets up at some point when you’re in it. You begin to not think about it and just go. Just take your time, you’ll get there. I hope you all enjoy. Would love to answer any questions you may have regarding the route and gear as well. Enjoy.

Beautiful stuff.

Lot of work to record the "ride by" shots. Ride along, stop and set the camera, ride back, turn around and ride into and out of the shot. Stop, turn around and go get camera. Then edit the damned thing. Not sure I have the patience.

I spent 10 summers mt. and road biking all around the Santa Fe/Los Alamos/Taos area. Loved it. I saw a lot of the high country south of Taos (S Boundary trail), the hills up at the headwaters of the Pecos (Elk Mt.), the Caja Del Rio, and the Jemez south of Rt 4, the Valley Caldera was privately owned at the time and off limits back then. Great memories and your video brings it all back, so thank you,

Neat, thanks! See any other biker/hikers? It looks really remote but I'm surprised to read the route hooks into Los Alamos local trails plus there's a train from Albuquerque. The roads look pretty good for the most part.

Well, I finally watched it just now ( phone's plugged in, lol), and it's not bad. 👍 I just crossed New Mexico last year, but not familiar really, that's another big state. 🤔😉
I got scared, when it sounded like a rattlesnake (on the soundtrack). 😲😁

yup, lots of work doing the "back and forth" camera setup routine.
3 inchers? Not sure how much the video reflects this, but it didnt look like there was too much hike-a-bike schlepping.
did you filter the water? My dad got giardia in the early 80s probably, and it was a bugger.

looks like it was a very pretty area to go through, hope it was as fun as it looked.
