Amazing Holland frame!
 

I just ran into the sweetest couple in their 80's who met at a bicycle club in the San Diego area and have been together ever since, with a life that centered around cycling. The husband, Tom, has gotten to a point in his life where he isn't able to ride anymore and they sold their entire collection. I was lucky enough to get this bike. It is a mid 80's Holland, painted by Joe Bell. I have never seen a steel frame that is not lugged. Tom also had a Ti Holland and told me that he much preferred this steel bike over the Ti bike, due to the smooth ride that we all know vintage steel gives us. It is a 57cm, ctc, and just beautiful. The paint, the craftsmanship....I dearly wish it were a 59 or 60, but it is too small for me and too big for my wife, so I have to find it a new home. It has a CF fork as well. I know that C&V bikes are "worth what someone will pay"....but does anyone have a starting point for this beauty?
And, should I take it down to the frame, and sell just the frame, or leave it built with this awesome Campy Record 8 speed group? Any advice is greatly appreciated! And any offers are welcome!

Fillet brazed bikes are pretty. Since you live in a large city which is a good market for used bikes, the advice in post 2 is spot on.

And seriously consider a classic styled seatpost - that bike deserves better.

I was thinking I would have better luck on here, or even gulp, ebay. The C&V market here in Denver is not very strong. it is such a huge strong cycling community that everyone is rinding new stuff. I may have to look at San Francisco, or somewhere with a strong vintage market. Thanks for letting me know on fillet brazed. Was searching for the correct working for it. Such a clean job!!

You are against the Campy aero post? Just go with s standard, era correct post?

I'm a big advocate of vintage bikes. I believe that bicycle technology reached it's "state of the art" around 1986. (Like a Stradivarius violin, string instruments haven't improved much over the last 500 years. The same is true with bicycles since 1986). This Holland bike is just as fast and beautiful to ride as anything made since. Be good. Have fun.

I wish it were my size so badly....I was sitting on it and my wife and i kept trying to justify...With a longer stem and an extended seatpost.... but I have learned my lesson about trying that! Unfortunately I am going to have to find her a new home! According to the original owner, it is an amazing smooth ride that he preferred over his Ti Holland.

Don't worry. There's millions of old bikes out there. Make sure it fits perfectly before you buy one. Be good. Have fun.

That is a very nice bike. Hard to say what to ask for it as that marque is uncommon and not as well recognized for its quality. I’m a big fan of 8 speed Campy. I would look for $800-$850 for complete bike but it might take a while to sell. Unfortunately, everyone wants a bike with clearance for big tires now so these bikes that can only fit 25’s don’t get the love they used to.

Thanks Legs. I will have to look at the tire clearance, but I am guessing you are correct. I also got a box of tires, still all in the box, but are all like 23!!

I was told the group is Record. I also bought a Somec, from the same couple, with a Record group, down to the Delta brakes!! I have not pulled everything off to clean and inspect, but when I do I will work on getting everything ID'd. I would like to be around that 800 mark, but it is such a beautiful and well crafted frame, with a paint job by Joe Bell...I wish it were my size, I would not be able to let it go. Too small for me, too big for my wife. Thanks for the pricing guidance!

The crank is definitely not Record

Does it say "Record" on the brakes, shifters or derailleur?

Record on the levers, nothing else. Just Campagnolo.
And here is the Somec. Again, way too small for me! This is maybe Mirage? I have a weird one-off 9 speed Mirage group that is a lot like this one. Anyway, Delta brakes missing as I already pulled them off to start checking them out in-depth.

Crank is C-Record gen 2, front derailleur very likely is as well, rear derailleur looks like Chorus, Ergopowers may be Record or Chorus, looks like the aluminum bodied gen 1, does the brake release mechanism have a spring? Seat post is C-Record but looks unusually dull in the picture.

I know, and have been a fan of SR and NR since the 80's, but all the 8 and 9 speed stuff really has me searching to figure out what I have here. I will check on the spring mech and let you know when I get home from work today, thanks again for your help!
