Looking for a wind vest
Even with a base layer and thermal jersey, I find my core gets chilled when I start rides in the morning when temps are in the mid to high 40's and feel like a wind vest would help with that.
I don't see a lot of these in the shops I go to so hard to evaluate in person. Looking for something that fits reasonably snug and has rear pockets. Also something that rolls up fairly small if I want to take it off and stuff it in a jersey pocket. Does not need to be waterproof. I like bargains but willing to pay for quality/functionality. |
I am a big fan of Castelli Perfetto Vest. Used it for multiple seasons now.

I've had good results with Castelli Velo vest. No longer made, but may still be out there.
Super light, not flappy, & stuffs into it's own little pocket, down to the size of an inner tube. Not a Castelli fan overall, but this has worked. Better without pockets IMO as you want to take off & stow it later, so no point in moving the pocket stuff, and vests with pockets stuff to a larger size- taking up a whole jersey pocket. |
Rapha has some vests available in the Archive sale, but color/size will be limited.

Also, one feature you should look for is dual zippers - you want to be able to unzip from the bottom to access stuff in your back jersey pockets.

Yes, better without pockets. My fave is made by Craft. It has a mesh back, which I like. it has a built-in stuff pocket, but way too much trouble to do that. I can fit it and my Voler wind jacket into the same jersey pocket.

If you are a cheapskate like me, you may want to try an inexpensive cycling vest from Ebay.
It does not have pockets, but the jersey you use underneath does. Cost is roughly $15. |

I had a Craft, it was great until it got too old. Mine was made with Windstopper from Gore. When I wanted to replace it I found the Gore Bike Wear stuff.

Yeah, well I have a fairly recent Craft 2.5 oz. vs. 6.6 oz. for the Gore. Craft no longer uses Gore fabric. Mine'll probably last for a couple more decades.

My "go to" brand is Assos because they seem to fit me well. But, there a lot of great choices.
