Late 80s? Pinarello Treviso

An acquaintance who is leaving the country gave me this today. Can anyone confirm the year and model? It’s been resprayed with new decals. The original paint appears to have been purple and white (I think). Campy Chorus headset and Campy BB along with an otherwise complete Shimano tricolor group minus the pedals.

54 cm. It’s too small for me. I dunno strip it for parts? Try and remove the respray with acetone? Save the frame for when my kids are teens? https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...4be032d17.jpeghttps://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...a310a122f.jpeg

If the paint might be original, then it looks like an '89 Treviso:

+1. my immediate thought was a Treviso in the OEM Cobalt Smoke finish but, if so, that is just about the worst factory paint I've ever seen. Still, the headbadge does have rivets, so it doesn't appear to have been removed and there's no signs of masking, so I wouldn't rule out factory paint. Also it's got the Columbus SL deca of a Treviso. It's definitely circa 1988-1989 and the only two models with the OP's set of frame features during that period were the Treviso (Columbus SL) and Cadore (Columbus Cromor).

It's worth noting that during this period the Cadore was available in red to white fade finish. This could match what the the OP believes to be the original finish, so further investigation is warranted. During this period Cromor had not yet been upgraded to include the Columbus steerer tube, so the model can be verified by examining inside the bottom of the fork's steerer tube for the five helical ridges that are indicative of a Columbus steerer (see pic). If they're present, it is a Treviso (possibly with factory finish) and if they're absent, it's a Cadore.

Here are some more photos. It was not resprayed. Any clue what the fork numbers mean?

Your camera likes your lawn. I think I can see ridges in the fork steerer - is that right?

The writing on the fork is probably instructions for the painter, or a customer's name. LAVDELA?

By the way I can't see your second image.

Nothing like child labour to save a few bucks. :thumb:

Not a repaint and not new decals either. The Pinarello decals are missing and the remainder held up better than the paint. I have two Pinarello's in my possession and both have paint that didn't hold up well. One has been stripped for repaint, it is a lower level model, 1987ish Veneto. The 91 Montello's paint is finished with a transparent pearl that is oxidizing out of control with no restoration that works. I think the UV really broke it down. I really don't want to repaint it as it is the four color scheme of that year.

The Montello was purchased off CL. I am sure it was nearly all original with DA 7402+. My understanding is the Giovani gave into the market demand for DA. The headset is Campagnolo, however, like the OP's.

Any chance original owner's last name was Caudela?

Yeah the paint is just blitzed. Rubbing compound would nuke it. Since it’ll be either a temporary ride for my son on his way to my height (6’1”) or a permanent ride for my daughter if she ends up her mothers height I will keep it around.

Maybe some kind of clear coat?
