Tom Scott: Why This British Crossroads Is So Dangerous

Excellent analysis. He did not propose the use of a camera to catch scofflaws. Perhaps that would motivate better behaviour.

Traffic cameras would necessitate electrical cables, expensive. I would suggest rumble strips across the whole road at the approach to the stop sign

4-way stop.

There are plenty of traffic control devices including cameras that are battery powered with or without solar recharging. Here's an example.

Or they could hire this guy:

He times his video well with the car in the beginning of the video blowing right on through the stop sign.

Yeah. That was 'great'. I immediately thought, "I think I see the problem." ;)

Because of safety, door pillars have become much wider the last two decades. Volvo has experimented with glass/steel truss pillars, but appearently that didn't work because it's quite a while ago. .

Maybe these days that could be done with camera technology? It doesn't need to be a hi res screen with an accurate image. It could be a screen over the length of the pillar tha projects what's on the other side to form an image of what's on the other side together with the side and front window.

That's exactly what I mean.

Just put a speed bump, done.

It's a mandatory Stop sign on the junction; as long as people keep treating that as a Give Way accidents on this type of junction will keep happening. There's a similar junction a few miles up the road from us, and there have been two fatal crashes that I can recall since I moved into the area. The problem with that road is that there's a couple of dips on the main road that can hide a car from view to approaching traffic. I suspect the crashes are caused in the same way - drivers taking a quick look while approaching the junction then going straight through.
