Is This A Reasonable Forum For New Technology Discussions?
Folks:
I would like to discuss some topics pertaining to technology in bicycling. They are not advertising nor pushing products, but expressing ideas. Respectfully, Mark Allyn Bellingham, Washington |
If you don't have something to sell, a product "under development" or a website to promote, have at it. If it involves a motor, put it in Ebike.
|
Curiosity engaged.
I would say, the general forum can be a bit silly at times, as you have a wide mix of cyclists viewing. If the technology is specific to one branch, such as mountain biking or gravel riding, those sub forums will have more members who think like minded... or not ;) |
Discussing new tech in all forums can be sort of frustrating at times. Take 1x tech for example. As soon as you make a post about a 1x9 drivetrain, for instance, you will get some reasonable replies, but they can be drowned out by all of the posters who oppose the very idea of 1x drivetrains. They'll make impassioned arguments in favor of triple cranksets that they've made a lot of times before and will totally ignore the fact that no one asked for their opinion of 1x drivetrains in general.
It happens with a lot of things in cycling, such as gravel bikes. "They're a trick by the industry to make people buy bicycles! Don't be fooled. Because I ride my road bike with 700x28c tires on gravel means that you should too. That much should be obvious to any reasonable person." |
this ought to be good. no offense man, wish you luck, depends on the topic whether you might get some good info

Oh... just keep away from the Classic and Vintage subforum. Those guys.. get awfully nervous around anything < 30 years old!!!! :50:
New cutting edge cycling technology that just came out can be fun. Ideas on the drawing board can also be fun, as long as you're not too intent with trying to discuss and obfuscate the subject at the same time. |
Please. People on here are still rejecting hydraulic disc brakes...
|
Don't be coy, go ahead and start a thread for the first of your topics:thumb:

Cannot guarantee reasonability

As this thread itself has demonstrated in answering your question, if you post something you will be more often than not told why it won't work.

“Is this a reasonable forum for new technology discussions?”
Sure, but only if your skin is thick enough to sort through all of the usual curmudgeons and clowns. Far too many around here are convinced their opinions are facts and they’re not shy about letting the world know, so if you’re the sensitive type consider this a warning. Otherwise, bring it. Thoughtful discussions of ideas both old and new are always welcome to me. There are specific sub forums which might be more appropriate if the subject is particularly narrow, but General offers a lot of latitude. Welcome to the asylum. -Kedosto |
This is a zombie thread. The OP hasn't been back since.... yesterday. Shame on everyone for failing to notice that, and posting anyway. Don't you feel foolish?

What Work Is Being Done For Serious Non Pneumatic Tires Also with a single post, and a whirlwind flurry of responses. |
Cyclists, in general, are closed minded and image conscious.
So, no. |

At this point, everyone's head is spinning, and nobody can agree on what is what. |
