HAPPY ST. VALENTINE's DAY!

Bad week for me. But I'm pretty sure it's water weight from the "high sodium" diet last week.

I missed the weigh in last week due to a lovely case of strep throat. Dr. put me on penicillin and I ate mostly Roman Noodles. Lots of sodium there. Plus, I didn't come close to drinking enough fluids. Started to get back on track yesterday. Here's a little "TMI" (so skip to the weights if you don't want to know:) More fluids came OUT yesterday than went in!

From my knee thread, I'm using the day I got home from TKR surgery as a base date.
11/11/2010, 303 lbs.
02/14/2011, 285 lbs.

My goal for February was to get to 235 by the end of the month. Almost there. Fell off the wagon a little bit last week by eating some Jethro size bowls of Honey Nut Cheerios at 10:00PM which is not a good thing but hey, maybe I lowered my cholesterol a wee bit:) I am finding that diet alone is not the answer, it's diet and excercise. The week I only lost a pound was a very low excercise week but I kept to my small portion low calorie eating habits. This past week was low excercise until Friday when I kicked it up a notch along with a 7.5 mile run yesterday. I am in pain from the run as that was the fartherest I have ever run but I made my goal of 240 the week. It was good to get outside again now that the weather here in Central PA is warming up and melting the snow. Supposed to be 60 on Friday, come on Spring and funk, don't let the door hit you in the arse on the way out!!!

since I'll be using my phone to update my weight from now on, I will only be putting the last 3 weigh-ins up. I have nothing to really to put in but I am still not exercising portion control. Still eating out too regulary. I am still not exercising but I am wanting to do it. I am being a little more active in my everyday life though. I am struggling but my time will come.

Did not work out but twice this week due to time restraints and headaches but maintained my weight so not all bad. Could not believe it stayed the same down to the tenth. Will put forth extra effort this week.

Up a pound from yesterday but down for the week. I've had time for a new bike build but didn't put my winter commuter back online. I expect continued progress once I return to cycle commuting 3+ days a week.

02/07 = 226.0 lbs Mileage = 69.31
02/14 = 224.5 lbs Not too bad, as I was traveling for work last week, which is challenging. I do best in my own environment on my own schedule - take me out of that, and I have restraint issues.

On a related note, I quit drinking altogether on 1/30, so I'm experiencing some mild sugar replacement via dark chocolate and some other sweets. Fortunately, it's not too extreme (wasn't drinking that much in the end), but I am keeping an eye on it.

antimike 02-14-11 12:08 PM

02/07 = 290.4 Mileage = ~34
02/14 = 286.8

This week's goals, get back on the bike and put some more miles on it. Keep on monitoring food intake and don't let the weekends be the downfall of all of the week's progress.

Keep at it everyone and good luck! (http://mikeway.co is my blog not .COM) it tracks my progress and other randomness. Not necessarily a cycling blog so yeah.

This roller coaster isn't going to end until I'm completely over this flu and I can resume my regular gym routine. It's gotta be at least three full weeks since I've been there. I don't feel sick any longer, but a nasty cough is lingering, and it manifests itself in incredibly ugly ways if my respiration rises above normal even a little. Fortunately, my back seems to be reasonably well again (crossing fingers and knocking on anything that even resembles wood around here).

With my heaviest weight being somewhere north of 435 lbs. back in the late summer of 2009, I've been working my way down since October of 2009.

1/3 = 280.0
1/10 = 273.4
1/17 = 272.2
1/24 = 271.8
1/31 = 269.6
2/7 = 265.4
2/14 = 271.8

No, that's not a typo. I debated whether or not I wanted to post that, but decided to go ahead because there are several reasons why the weight is up. For one thing, I injured my knee last Sunday while running and was out of commission for half the week. I've been out celebrating something almost every night, having dined out the past 6 days and 5 of the 6 were at AYCE type affairs. And guess what... I'll be at another tonight for my wife's birthday / Valentine's Day. Also - while my leg was aching, I started doing serious upper body lifting sessions. Plus, when my knee finally DID heal up, I went and rode a century. So there are a lot of factors at play here. I can tell you one thing - my weight may be up, but my pants fit better. I hope this helps illustrate how the number on the scale isn't the most important part of the whole "healthy lifestyle."

You injured your knee on, I presume, Sunday the 6th, and you've ridden only one century in the days since then? Time to HTFU, dude! ;)

Showme230 02-14-11 04:00 PM

290 today and pretty much all week, down two more pounds. Rode my first 20 mile ride on Sat. Started feeling under the weather, still planning to go to the gym tonight but snacking a lot this weekend did not help anything. I am having a hard time keeping my diet on the weekend. I do a great job through the week. It is like I cannot get full on the weekend. Still Moving!!

FWIW, the weekend thing might be boredom (speaking from experience, here). I spent the bulk of last weekend doing bike work (tearing down an old road bike and converting it to fixed; brake adjustments; fixing prior screw ups, etc..) and did not snack much at all...'course, I spent a small fortune on bike stuff during this time, so I might have merely redirected my addiction :D

I wanted to lose 5-6lbs and actually lost 6.5!!! This week I'm hoping for another 5-6.

biggieou 02-14-11 06:50 PM

I agree with Pirate, boredom is what gets me on the weekend. I will be bored watching TV and just think, "hmm I'm hungry". But in all actuality I'm not hungry. Its at that point I drink water, try to get something to take my mind off of it, or just have a small salad to "appease" my hunger. I figure 20 calories of salad is worth my dang stomach leaving me alone haha.

Arrrg!
What makes this worse is that I had started the week by losing more. I went from 188 to 195 in two days.
Day 1: friend comes over from out-of-town for dinner. He brings lovely, tasty ingredients (including an emu egg) -- and we wind up having dinner at 9:30 at night.
Day 2: Foot hurts. Stay home and have late meal and a glass of wine instead of going to gym.

I'm on my way back down -- but I'm not pleased by the overall picture.

Pretty much recovered from the previous week's sugar and sodium extravaganza, but had a cold which prevented me from spending more time on the bike. A friend contacted me last night about riding the MS150 this year, so that could be a training goal for the year.
