Confused between which hybrid bike should I go with
Hi Guys,
I am really confused about which Hybrid bike I should go with from the following options. 1. Giant Fast Road SL 2 (ASIA) 2019 2. Merida Crossway 300 2019 3. Trek FX3 Disc 2020 4. Fuji Absolute 1.7 Disc 2017 My main purpose is to commute to work & weekend rides. I stay in Bangkok, Thailand and the roads here are pretty good. I am inclined towards Giant Fast Road SL 2 as I think it has a better frame & components. It would be really helpful if you can help me narrow down on anyone. |
Out of the 4 the Merida is the only one with a front shock. Is that something you think you need?

All 3 bikes fall into the same basic category. You're not going to find one that is so much better than the others that it would necessitate a "must buy". Go test ride all 3 bikes and get the one that feels the best.

Okay. What about Components wise? Which 1 is better?
|
I would get the one that accepts the widest tires. Also, not a fan of FSA Mega Expo crankset, because it has a 19mm diameter spindle that only FSA makes bottom brackets for it as opposed to Simano's lower priced 24mm bbs that are widely available.
If i were you, i would add Specialized Sirrus to your list and pick one after test riding all of them. |
Sure. I will test ride Specialized Sirrus too
|
Don't overlook a Specialized Roll. I was convinced I wanted one of the bikes you mentioned until I rode it. We now own 2 Rolls.

I'd suggest briefly trying out as many of the bikes that make your short list as you can. You might shorten the list if a bike feels uncomfortable right off.
I bought a 2018 Giant Sedona comfort bike last year and love it. It isn't fast, But is by far the most comfortable bike I have ever ridden. Despite it's entry level price, Quality and performance is first rate. The rim brakes work in the rain, The 7 speed cassette shift's flawlessly and it handles predictably at any speed I'm likely to ride. Based on my experience with this bike, Giant is my go to brand for a replacement, or perhaps a second bike. I think their Fast Road SL 2 would be a fine choice if it feels right to you. I have considered one of their Fast Road models myself to compliment my Sedona. |

My only criticism is the level or drive train which is at the low end of the design spectrum and performs accordingly. Don't get me wrong the shifting is adequate but as someone who does a lot of riding on a road bike with 105 flawless shiftings, I am spoiled and notice the slight hiccups in shifting here and there on the FX3. Mine you they are just occasional random hiccups not deal breakers or problems that cause any seriour problems or danger. The above said all I can about your consideration of the Trek FX3 2020 is Trek overall makes good bikes and in the US at least has the best warranty and honors it. Good luck on your choice and happy and safe riding! |
