Bottle Relocation Product Review
Like almost everyone who frequents this particular forum, I ride older steel road bikes and I'm a little less flexible than I used to be. Hydration is especially important to me so I almost always carry two large water bottles. Since my positioning on the bike has changed, reaching down for the bottle on the downtube can be a bit of a stretch so I bought a bottle relocation gizmo thinking it might make a difference and boy did it ever. So much so that I'm in the process of putting them on all my bikes. I would say it would be even more useful if you normally carried smaller/shorter bottles. Install is easy and there's a bit of adjustability built in so you could even make it work for bikes with downtube shifters, especially with the shorter bottles. All the fasteners are in the kit are T25 so you'll need an L handle version tool.

I've got to agree although for me I needed to move the cage to get more space. Anyone with a Y-Foil knows how tight they are in terms of water bottles. I originally had bought a very short one to fit in there. Then I found this and was able to gain an inch or some more of clearance where I can now use one of my regular camelback 20 oz bottles.

This is an issie with 2 of my Bianchi frames where the bottle cages almost overlap.

I used the B-Rad system
To mod my Trek 720 to carry five bottles on tour this summer. One was on the underside of the down tube to lower the bottle, allowing a large bottle without tire rub. One was on the inside of the down tube, putting one bottle in somewhat the normal place, and above it a double adapter so two could be carried side by side. The third, on the seat tube, was used to raise the bottle so as not to interfere with the lower bottle on the down tube. Rock solid and effective.

Interesting. That might resolve a problem I'm having mounting the bottle cages I want on a '93 Trek 5900. Instead of the usual cage mount bolt holes it has protruding threaded studs, and needs a nut to fasten the cage. Problem is, some cages have recessed holes too narrow for an 8mm socket. I've had to try several different cages to find one that suits me.
But that B-Rad doodad might do the trick. |

I use handlebar mounts for my second bottle. And sometimes the only bottle.

I made my own from a strip of 1" x 1/8" aluminum.

An interesting solution to a problem. My old Motobecane doesn't have brazed on mounts, so I went the hose clamp/piece of inner tube protection for the frame to mount mine so there was some flexibility on where to mount it (although in these Texas Summers, I tend to use a Camelback with the water bottle only used to squirt water through my helmet and back of my neck...).

I've made a few too, although it doesn't need to be a full 1" wide. It's not necessary to have a slot, you can drill multiple sets of holes, but more importantly, you can just measure where you want the cage before drilling any holes.
