Schwinn Madison love

There's been a little talk about the Schwinn Madison recently but I feel there should be more.

Now that my Kilo Club membership card has been revoked, I'd like this thread to be a gathering place for Maddy owners to post pics and make fun of each others' bikes until we all get kicked off the forum. (I'm kidding).

Here's mine:

She's a pretty one...
Do you still have your 'scrambled egg' Kilo TT?

Scrodzilla 04-26-10 08:33 PM

I do, but I'll most likely be selling it soon.

milkcratebasket 04-26-10 08:38 PM

It looks really nice. Btw what size is your kilo tt?

Scrodzilla 04-26-10 08:40 PM

That is mine.... an original 1986 Schwinn Madison. Made with mild Columbus Tenax tubing. Only drawback is it it can't take tires larger than 25c but who cares - its my first FG bike acquisition! ;-)

Im really not a fan of the madison ( two tone color scheme on the frame, stock components are kind of bottom of the barrel and its on the high weight end for a track bike). That being said, I have heard only good things. I like that old white model, they should have went back to that for 2010.

NormanF 04-26-10 09:00 PM

The reissue was inspired by the 1980s Madison, which interestingly enough, was sold as the last of the great Chicago Schwinns even though the factory closed about 1982!

Withoutfixie 04-26-10 09:25 PM

I owned one for a bit, it was alright for what I paid , but meh I found better. No love from me on the madison. Im sorry Scrod:(.

My brief days with the madison (don't worry it found a great new home):

scrod, what is your front brake setup? i have the same bars as you and i like how your brake lever looks on them, as well as the entire front brake.

Squirrelli 04-26-10 09:47 PM

I'd do dirty things to that Scrod's Maddy.

johnnytheboy 04-26-10 10:08 PM

I like your Madison about 10x as much as I liked your Kilo. This shade of blue is really complemented by all the white; it looks great.

WoundedKnee 04-26-10 10:22 PM

So now if I buy your frame I won't be as cool... damnit.

Agreed (and thanks)! My gold Kilo with all the white/silver parts was really nice but I think my blue Madison looks even better. More importantly, it fits me better and isn't quite so flexy underneath me. It may be heavier, but it feels much more solid.

Why not? Kilo TTs are still damn good bikes. I just happen to like my Madison better.

2007 (apparently hard to find?) white maddy. REAL track geometry :D

I got this bike a while ago with the intention of riding it on the track. after i got the bike and rode the hell out of it i saw that there was a lot of criticism about it (especially as an actual TRACK bike) so i decided to upgrade it towards more of a street feel.

i have half come to the conclusion that since i am a big guy, this bike should be okay for me as entry level track racing. i just dont like the thought of being laughed off the track :/ but AYHSMB.

current upgrades:
surly cog
dura ace lockring (formula one stripped)
profile design pursuits with fizik tape and cane creek tt lever
thompson elite seatpost and stem
black gr-9s with christophes and exustar straps

very near future upgrades:
clipless pedals and shoes
dura ace 7600 cranks (already purchased)
track drops
some kind of 144 bcd 50 or 51t chainring (recommendations?)
moar cogs

Ska! 04-26-10 11:42 PM

proof that i roll mad deep.
