Peugeot Mixte UE-18: Restoration Completed!!
Hi,
I finally completed the restoration of this 1976 Peugeot UE-18. New grease everywhere, paint touch-up, chrome and paint shining... Thanks for your comments. I would also appreciate if you can give me an idea of the value. There is a lot of Peugeot for sale in my market (Montreal). A bike like this one but not restored at all is priced around 180-200 Canadian $. I have never seen a UE-18 full restored and I a wondering what could be the value. Thanks! Oh! I have a second restoration completion to be posted soon. A nice Italian icon... https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...ba1556de65.jpghttps://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...55664a747d.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...96c95c2a70.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...4f3c73afa5.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...db094d149f.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...5d307fec74.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...187d115701.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...d2cb0e1a22.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...f96b656b1a.jpg |
Excellent photography.
I'd go around the nds of the head tube with the rear brake cable. Looks awkward. But it may be too short now to use the same cable/housing. |

Very nice work!. It looks like a time traveler. I found the "fender" on the generator wheel very unique (to me). Never saw that before.
Nice storage/display location for the Mafac tool kit. I always tucked mine under the seat. Be careful, though as they will walk. |

Chances are the bicycle will not fetch its value. The bike is awesome and rarely do I use that word. But, it is a lower level steed and many uninformed potential buyers will look without favor on the step through, or ladies, design. I know the bike is a mixte, but not all buyers will see the value there. Most collectors seek the standard men's style frame.
As for value - sold locally at this time of the year (not the best time of the year to sell a bike in Canada) - $200 to $300 CND but to get even close to those values, you will most likely have to exercise strong marketing skills and couple those with patience. If you sell internationally, you might get more for the bike (it is exceptional and very complete), but probably not. Shipping costs will drive the price well above the bike's value. Please keep in mind that appraisals are really only opinionated guesses. I do wish you good luck with that bike. It is, indeed, a beauty in my opinion. Were I to offer the bike for sale, I would seek a good home and, perhaps, accept a bit less in dollars and cents. I would hate to see some fool curb jumping the bike. |

There are a number of nice Peugeot mixtes in the nearest sizable market to me (DC area) with pretty strong asking prices. Here is one sold by the original owner, and appears to be in excellent condition, for 250 USD (330 CAD). This one is not quite as nice as the first, selling for 275 USD (365 CAD). And a third, also in only okay-to-good condition, for 225 USD (300 CAD). I think @randyjawa makes some good points regarding the value, especially the comment about the time of year. You may have better luck holding onto the bike over the winter and bringing it out next April or May.
If the asking prices in my area are any indication, you could probably ask 350 CAD for it and see where it gets you. Of course, the person looking for that exact bike won't care about the time of year or other factors. You need to find that guy! That's a beautiful bike. I have a green one in a condition not near as nice as yours. Yours is what mine wants to be when it grows up! |

This bike is beautiful. I picked up a fixer that is no where near how yours looks and appreciate the work you put into it. I'm hoping to slowly build one up (also will be a learning process for myself) over the summer as well. Thanks for sharing as I will definitely be using yours as an model.
