2019 AMGEN Tour of California
Who is planning to drive/ride to one of the stage routes to see the race? This year’s Stage 5 is 136 miles long and it runs from Pismo Beach to Ventura. The riders will be riding on some of the same roads that I regularly ride. I plan to be there. I’ve done it before and it is a lot of fun. |
maybe hit stage six from ontario to mt. baldy on fri, may 17th but gotta request a vaca day. if i'm gonna ask for a vaca day, i'd rather hit stage five. will be driving up from san diego.
prefer gibraltar vs baldy as the big socal climb tho. |

I'm planning to see stage 6 off Glendora Ridge Road, but unfortunately still nursing a very bad knee and won't be able to ride.
They ride this road both going down towards Glendora and back up towards Mt Baldy. Great place to see downhill speed and uphill climbs without moving. Gonna have to drive up to the spot at crack of dawn before road closures but still trying to figure out exactly when they close the course to cars. :foo: Anyone planning to see stage six? |
Is anyone planning to attend any of the meet & greet events?
|
My wife bought me a VIP pass for Stage 1. |
^sweet!
yah, looked at the course profile for the pismo to ventura stage 5. didn't grab my attention as much as stage 6 gmr/grr/baldy and the opportunity to double up by seeing the riders pass by twice on gmr. gonna try to post up on that friday at opposite ends of the 2.5/3 mile semi-circle a few miles west of cow saddle (short n sweet descent/ascent to/from mt. baldy village) so i can see both the descent and ascent of gmr/grr in all its' glory. good sightlines and you'll be able to see the pack strung out across the mountain from a distance. |
Most likely I'll be going again to the closest stage to me in Morgan Hill. Last year I watched on course. This year I think I'll hang out at the finish area.
|
I'll be taking the kids to stage 1 for the Strider race!
Was tempted to take the Monday off and go up to South Lake for stage 2, but going up there this weekend instead. |
I've been to at least one live stage every year except last year. I've seen prologues, time trials, sprint finishes, and mountain stages.
I had a VIP pass for Santa Rosa a couple years ago, and I had a VIP pass for Mount Diablo mountain top finish a few years before that - both birthday presents from Diablo Wife. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Et...Q=w929-h724-no This year I think I'll watch them go over the back side of Hamilton. It won't be decisive but should be fun with lots of spectators. |
We need Van Der Poel to ride this years Tour of California. I predict 90% of Sagan's fans would switch sides :D

naaaaaaa... :roflmao: |
VDP is no Sagan...
|
Stage 2 goes south of my employer. I'm going to try to get out and watch them go by. I don't know how to find out if there's organized viewing areas, though. Nothing about that on the tour website.
Race pace is amazing. Rancho to South Lake the long way in six hours? There's a bitter voice in my mind wondering if this is why the County canceled the Great Scott Road Ride event this year... that would be two shutdowns of the area in two weeks. |

Let us guess... because Sagan is in it, heh? ;)

AToC was the first time I ever heard of Sagan, Alaphillipe, Van Garderen, Rohan Dennis.
I saw Lance!, Floyd, Bettini, Cancellara, Hushovd, Boom, Boonen, Nuyens... all on the roads I know. Giro will be on YouTube later. |

Even if he's not fit I'm sure he'll do a couple wheelies for his American groupies just to keep the dollars rolling in.
Moving on from this trolllolololo................. |

It's the only chance we have here to see these athletes. Don't rain on our parade. Jelly are we? Someone didn't take his meds today.
Moving on from this trolllolololo................. This place only comes alive for the TdF once a year. People keep on about how they're so against doping until a proven doper wins and it's an "awesome ride, unbelievable*. |

But the TOC is here and the Giro is far away.

Don't mean to rain on anyone's parade, just introduce an element of reality.
