Shoes and Pedals

Hi,

I will purchase shorthly a Chariot carrier and planning to go on touring daily trip only.

What kind of shoes and pedals do you recommend ? I was thinking Mountain bike shoes and pedals but I bit worried to fall off with a very young child in the trailer.

Sould I just a have running shoes with normal pedals which I know would make my ride a lot slower and different.

most people that tour reccomend mtn bike shoes and pedals because it is easier to walk around if something were to happen.

I like wearing Shimano sandals with Eggbeater clipless pedals if it's a warm weather tour.

I use Speedplay Frog pedals and mountain biking shoes on all of my bikes. My favorite shoes are Sidi Dominators. They are expensive shoes, but they have a very stiff sole - which is my preference.

This seems to be a highly personal choice--sort of like saddles. Twenty years ago, I did a 5,000 mile tour in sneakers and it worked out fine. I still wouldn't have any problem with it. These days, I tend toward MTB shoes and SPD pedals. My all-time favorite shoe is the Shimano cycling sandal. They come with SPD cleats. You can wear them all summer long on and off the bike.

since nobody seems to make specific "touring shoes" anymore, i use mtb shoes.
quill pedals with toe clips 'n straps. don't tighten the straps down......

so sad. my avocet touring shoes lasted 50,000 miles of cycling, and best guess
about 1000 miles of hiking to castles and scenic lookouts along the way.
