Crank Choice: Vision NS 386EVO vs SRAM Omnium Track

I'm entering the world of track cycling and have been attending beginner training sessions.

I'm currently converting my 2018 Aventon Mataro for track use. (As I progress I'll upgrade the frame.)

Having a tough time choosing a crank for my build.

Narrowed down the following cranks:

SRAM Omnium / GXP BB - 165mm 48t
Vision NS 386EVO - 165mm 49t

I've been researching like crazy and would like to get some final feedback on which of these I should purchase.

Get whichever you like the look of most and/or whichever you can get the best deal on. They're much of a muchness and far more crank than any normal human can pick the difference between

I use the Vision cranks and have no issues with them. I saw a member of the New Zealand's track team using them also the other day. I have no complaints or regrets about my purchase.

Originally I thought about getting the Omnium crank set but heard people complaining of how they had to replace the bottom bracket within a couple of months.

One question to ask is whether 165 mm is the right length crank for you, which depends on how tall you are. If 165 is proper for you, then either crank will work for you. If you are 5"6" or shorter, you may want a shorter crank. There is a discussion in one of the threads in this forums.

If you need a shorter crank, then you may have to go to something like a Rotor crank.

On a related note, does anyone know what other brands of chainring fit the Omnium and look ok?

^pretty much any 144bcd chainring will fit. You can go down a rabbit hole as deep as your pocket book will allow when it comes to chainrings.

I ran Sram, DuraAce and Rotor on mine. They all looked fine.

I've used FSA on mine too, works fine, looks fast.

I have the Omniums on my 2018 Aventon Cordoba, and really like them. No issues.

I like Campagnolo track cranksets..
They do not show up on the Campy web site but are available from various websites.

Also when buying any make of bottom bracket make sure you buy one with the correct threading for your frame.

I could never feel any difference between cranksets. Especially with outboard BB.

Q-factor, weight and looks is what I would look at.

Sugino 75 ftw as the kids say.

Does Q-factor vary a lot in track cranks?
