Looks like you ride in a lot of traffic.

probable556 07-21-07 04:58 PM

That's funny to see that mapped out. I ride a lot of those streets everyday.

In the morning its fun to go east on 236 and go faster than the cars. Also to add some miles when you start, go to 50 through Mantua and ride Pickett back to the starting point for some hill work.

This s my ride tomorrow AM (MTB):

Oh, and also- I wish Google would include county trails like CCT, parks like Wakefield, Fountainhead, Accotink, etc.

+100

I have had more near crashes there than any other spot in nova. Pass Herndon and it is not so bad.

+ 101. Same for MVT.

I have a nice 90 min loop off of FCP (at Stringfellow Rd.) if anyone is interested.

hoodooguru 07-21-07 05:22 PM

Can anyone recommend at Sat morning ride in FF? I'll be up there next weekend for the white stripes show.

Reston Bike Club does a sat morning ride starting in FF county, but it's a "social" ride and may be too slow for you if you are a strong rider.

It looks to me like part of your loop traces out the attendance boundaries of my old HS - WT Woodson class of '76 here

Hey did you know my older brother, Pete Bockman by chance? I think he was class of '78.

Name kinda rings a bell, not sure, but I've been gone a long time. ;) May have to pull out an old annual.

Been on most of those road. OK for a suburban ride.
Personally, I try to stay off Braddock and LRT. No fun riding with those crazy drivers.
I find that the pedestrian bridge over the B'way into Wakefield and a little bit if trail works in lieu of Braddock, and the side streets south of LRT and west of NOVA are a nicer ride back to Fair City

Hey, it's just a loose framework that can be riffed on almost infinitely. I like the rolling terrain and (mostly) quiet suburban roads, especially when longer country rides aren't possible.

cc_rider 07-22-07 03:20 PM

Have you tried the roads in north Arlington? Some good riding there, especially when you add McLean and Falls Church. Can turn it into a good hill workout.

Mtn Mike 07-22-07 04:15 PM

good ol' nova traffic

I used to ride some of those roads when I was growing up in Nova. Now I can't even imagine riding in that much congestion  But I know you do what you gotta do. Do you guys ever hit the roads toward Clifton and Centreville? There are some great loops out there, but I never see anyone posting any maps.

Bockman 07-22-07 04:19 PM

I'll get around to posting my Clifton Loop soon. THAT is one hilly mofo.

2Tired2Shift 07-22-07 04:24 PM

Clifton Rd. could be scary. I can't imagine drivers would be very patient during those climbs.

Same with Chapel, Wolf Run Shoals, and Kinchelow roads. But they're really cool roads to ride on. 20 yrs ago when I was growing up in Clifton, they were sort of rural roads, and you could get away with riding on them. Not sure if that's still true with all of the new development that's happened.

How long since you've been out here?

Here's one route through Arlington:

Hills of North Arlington

Fun to be had by all! :D

This one is a bit contrived but a good workout:

More Arlington Hills

I'd love to see that route. I'm pushing out my distance and time and need some long routes.

Looks like one of my typical loops. Never tried that way across I-395. Usually use the pedestrian bridge or Sanger
But I see you wimped out on the big hill on Williamsburg. :p

Yep. That's a hilly one.

I like to ride Chesterbrook, Kirby and Idylwood. Just a couple of hills. :D
