Retirement!

After 33 years in the semiconductor industry, I've finally hit the finish line. I've been joking with @rccardr that he's my hero and I hate him - he's been retired since I've known him, and shows up to cycling events all over the country - damn I've been jealous! Doc, I don't hate you anymore :D.

More time with my wife, more time in the Atelier, and more time to ride.

Well now I just hate both of you. Even though I’ve never met either of you.

Back to the grind…

Chuck Naill 08-18-23 10:02 AM

Congratulations. It took me a couple of years to settle into retirement. Go slow and taper off as George Sheehan used to say.

merziac 08-18-23 10:26 AM

You will be amazed at the piddly crap that gets in the way of what you think you'll be doing. ;)

Congrats :thumb:

squirtdad 08-18-23 10:31 AM

@gugie congrats. I am hoping to join you and rccardr in the next year or 3. (or sooner if things go sidewas at work)

next time I see you IRL beer is on me

RB1-luvr 08-18-23 10:32 AM

congratulations. I'm envious.

panzerwagon 08-18-23 10:33 AM

Met them both and still hate them. Will be a while before I even know when to start the countdown.

Oh, and lovely chaps those two, despite their retired status.

rjhammett 08-18-23 10:41 AM

Congratulations! I retired 2.5 years ago and life has been grand. Enjoy the ride.

Congrats.... I've been exploring the possibility. 38 years in Aerospace may be enough. My head has not been on the job but more on this forum or where to ride next. Retirement is around the corner for me. My son is asking me about real estate in Eugene, OR. Missed buying a place in Florence, OR last year. Hopefully, in two years I may be able to get a place with the kid in Eugene then i'll have connection with the region rich in bike culture.

Congratulations! The current plan here is for me to pull the pin by the end of the year - and my wife is down to working two mornings a week at her job, so that will be a whole new world!

Plotting roads to ride in my head already ... and maybe even some S24Os, which is a good excuse to rebuild the Cannondale ST400 ....

Classtime 08-18-23 11:09 AM

So Nice. Congrats. I'll be joining you in two years -- Unless they start allowing me to actually do my job:roflmao2:

This ^

I retired April ‘22. Best decision I ever made. I’m not sure how I manage to keep busy during the week, but I do and do not work, even part time. I do ride 2-3 days, lap swim 3 days, kayak one day. Plus all kinds of other crap.

Congratulations!

Congratulations, my friend.
Retirement is the best job I’ve ever had- great hours, a super boss, short commute, flexible dress code and an excellent ‘office’ location.
Wishing you many miles of smiles!

Congratulations and know that I retired a few years ago only to become a full time musician. Stuff will happen.

ascherer 08-18-23 12:53 PM

Mazel tov! I could in theory but I need to stoke the furnaces a bit more. Thankfully I enjoy what I do and where I do it.
