I just did the IZU peninsula (just south of Fuji) and am aching to go back and do more. The cars seem very tolerant of us cyclists and I had no trouble at all. The many onsens helped too.

I wear these shoes almost exclusively. They are comfortable and really hold up well. I did go a 1/2 size longer than normal. I think new, they were $150. The look the biz and perform great.

It seems to my untrained eyes, the 71 has a more relaxed head tube angle, stretching the wheelbase out a little....
