rim is shot

Rims are bent to unbend only in emergency situations, your wheel rim is shot and needs to be replaced.

the wheel will have problems no matter what you do, so replace it.

there is about 6" difference in wheelbase between the ute and the minute.

I'd say the UTE is a service bike, the minute is a norma bike bending in the direction of a service bike. For heavy loads...

Well, I figured when I bought my 2007 new (old stock) Kona UTE that it being a high end service bike, that it would have been set up correctly.

Regrease the entire bike...the wheel hubs, fork tube bearings, pedals, crank...older bikes are likely very dry relating to lube. A little bit of care now will protect these machines.

Lubing a chain is really to ensure the rollers work smoothly, yes lube also keeps the outside of the chain from rusting, but more than that, it's to keep the chain functioning better.

ok...basic question...you are using fenders right? If not, put some on your machine, it makes a HUGE difference on how dirty the bike, and especially the drive train get in slop.

non lubed chains wear freewheel cogs and crankchains faster.

alloy racks don't forge, they just crack, or severly weaken when bent.

shims are used to pick up slack, if too tight a fit, try another rack.
