Remove springs. Clean off rust with buff wheel or scotch-brite pad or dremel polish. Spray with an anti-rust aerosol (Rust-Oleum makes one for $5). Let dry. Lube (Teflon dry lube)

I ride a 55 and it is perfectly fine, but leaning towards the big side. A 56 would really be pushing it to the big side...54 would be more perfecter.
