You need to be able to run a wider range cassette, 7 speed I would seriously recommend against going 1x. Probably better off saving for something better or worthy of going 1x, be it new or used.

I strangely recently had the chords to a gp400II that I used on the front shift and had all of 150 miles on it. Conti's QC certainly has not been good as of late.
