Yeah I don't know that I'd risk a multi-$100 carbon crank with the extra 20mm of leverage from $20 pedal extenders.

I've used extenders in aluminum for years though.

Not likely. Brakes/pads can have enough slack to go between 700C and 27", but usually 700<-->650 is only possible with disc brakes, and it's not worth it to weld a disc brake mount onto the frame...
