i wouldnt say top quality but i got some older mavic MA40's and it made a whole lot of difference.. the bike felt more like a flying carpet with those on .. well worth it

ive heard that two frames of the same size make etc.. will not be exactly the same in terms of performance as slight differences at the joints will affect the performance...so it doesnt always follow...

id have thought there ought to be some minor play anyway, otherwise the whole thing would be too tight.. if it were me i wouldnt worry, and just smooth in some grease to allay fears of water...
