I use specialized Bennies on my mtn and fatbike, like them alot. On my Gorilla Monsoon, I switch between clipless and one up. The one up is a nice thin pedal with a large surface.
I like them better...

What kind of riding are you planning? the Crosstrail is more of a light trail/ pavement bike. The rockhopper is a MTB. Either can work depends on your riding. Good luck with the weight loss.

For your price range a craigslist find might be better. Most "trail bikes" will be fine for your weight. A rigid fork may be better than a cheapo fork for your purposes.
