Tubeless is AWESOME. But some nails and pieces of glass are just too big... but for the most part anything a tube will survive with a patch would have been sealed by a tubeless setup.

2x should be plenty for most road bike applications. A lot depends on the strength of the rim...

Never hurts to learn how to do your own maintenance. The tools are an investment for sure. A lot can be said for using a professional bike shop, many of whom have free "tune up" services on wheels...

Always grease your BB on install and re-apply at least annually. Waterproof and/or teflon fortified grease is best. Titanium frames need anti-seize and regular attention as well. :)

With fewer spokes the holes are further apart so the spoke angle at the hub will be smaller and in turn the crosses closer to the hub flange.
