I also used the Tektro R559 calipers on my Sports but replaced the Raleigh levers with Shimano BL-R550 levers...

I have a 1971 AW which is smooth and a 1973 AW which has the grooves same as Velocivixen's hub. So maybe the grooves were added around 1972?

Cables are marked "Shimano M System" and looking at piece I cut off it is lined with some type slick material. Whatever the stuff is the brake action is very smooth.

Do you know the threading on the fork steerer tube, 24tpi or 26tpi? Maybe your LBS can help find a suitable replacement.

I don't think the standard length would have worked in my case. CR18 rims were used and the brake pads are mounted pretty low in the calipers. Will post better pic tomorrow.

Looks like you have a nice Sports. I just finished mine and used the Tektro brakes on both ends of the bike. The rear fits just fine and works terrific.

It is a 21, a little small for me but will fit my two son-in-laws just fine when they visit. The seat post is long, about 350mm, so it has plenty of metal in the seat tube.
