axle stuck in bearings

I have a Zipp FP60 wheelset and I took the rear hub apart to replace the bearings and the axle is stuck in the bearings. I put a block of wood on it and whacked it pretty hard with a rubber mallet...

I am working on a set of Fulcrum 7's and when I tighten down the nuts on the axel the freehub gets so tight it won't turn. Everything is assembled correctly it seems. Any suggestions?
