I would look on Craig’s list for a bike with a 26” frame. You may find a nice one at a reasonable price. Lots of good bikes were made in the 80’s. Just look for one that has been well looked after....

Thanks for the input everyone. I was able, through trial and error, to find and install two old axel hubs. There is no play in either axel and both wheels spin nice and smooth. So they should be fine...

The bike did pretty good considering he never took the time to make sure everything was set up and tightened properly. He could have ridden a low price Trek and got the same result I suspect.
