I wouldn't be surprised if you could ride 25 miles now. Instead of riding 12-14 mph, ride at 10-12 mph. Take a few short breaks and you're there.

The bolt holding it on is the same as the bottle cage bolts. Now I know what it's for. Fun bikes. Enjoy!

Very early morning rides are preferable to evening as it's a little cooler at daylight, but as Ed says both are doable. Camping below 6000 ft elevation will likely be uncomfortably warm. Good luck!
