For me it's about price. LBS is $1.25 a pop on the gel pouches or under a dollar per serving when purchased in the jug. It's also a lot easier to handle four servings in a flask than four pouches...

Mine was covered as well... I paid extra to cover the instance of a crash so it was a bit more but turned out to be worth it. As with auto insurance, it is not covered for races obviously.
