My doctor has told me that your max heart rate is literally the maximum your heart can pump. Mine is 203 at 27 and I average around 170 on most rides at good effort. The formula is just a ballpark....

3T is pretty good but they're a bill and then some for the cheaper carbon one. I just bought a Thomson (aluminum) and love it. The rail clamps on it are the best design by far.

For me it's about price. LBS is $1.25 a pop on the gel pouches or under a dollar per serving when purchased in the jug. It's also a lot easier to handle four servings in a flask than four pouches...

Mine was covered as well... I paid extra to cover the instance of a crash so it was a bit more but turned out to be worth it. As with auto insurance, it is not covered for races obviously.
